Squeeking!
 

I have a 91 Crx Si, and it all of a sudden started squeeking yesterday. But it usually only squeeks in the 2-3000 Rpm range, and sometimes it squeeks, and sometimes it doesnt. What's up with this??? I'm either thinking it's the timing belt or the alternator belt? Any suggestions on how to fix this???

if it's squeeking from the timing belt, which isn't likely, you can tighten the timing belt tensioner. if it's coming from the alternator belt, tighten that as well.

there should be about only .5" of play for each belt when you press down on it. and the tension on each side of the timing belt should be equal.

if you find out that the squeeking is from the alternator belt and if it still squeeks after retightening it, try spraying some belt dressing on it. if that doesn't work, it's time for a new belt.

for the timing belt tensioner, you can go to http://www.c-speedracing.com. and for the alternator belt, loosen the 10mm bolt up top and the 12mm bolt on the bottom of the alternator bracket. after those bolts are loosened, stick a large screwdriver between the alternator and the bracket and push the alternator to the direction of the firewall making sure the belt is tight. once you've pushed it as far as it can go, hold the screwdriver in that position and tighten the 10mm bolt to make sure the belt stays in the position. after you've tightened the top bolt, tighten the bottom bolt and you're done.
