Is it safe to bypass the IAC valve?
 

I don't know if my IAC is bad or not, but I heard I don't need it since I live in the south. I also heard I could skip the throttle body too. Is this true? Do I need a fast idle valve? Can I bypass that also?

This is all in a 94 Civic w/ B16A.

You are thinking of bypassing the valve that runs coolant to the TB to prevent the throttle plate from sticking.

if you mean bypassing the coolant lines that run to the TB...yes you can totally do this. I've always done this to my b-series swaps in my own car. It didn't affect idle or anything. Thing is....I live in 'normal' climate zone. So if you live in a cold weather zone, I suggest you DON'T bypass these coolant TB lines. But you info say's LA...so you should be ok if you bypass. Just reroute the coolant lines going from the back of the block .....back into the block some how, or just block-off those lines going to the tb.

Bypassing the TB isn't a bad thing as long as you don't get down in to cold weather (I'm in FL...). I also bypassed my IACV. On the first starts in the morning, I have a rough idle, but when the car warms up it's gone. I don't really tell much of a difference between having it hooked up and having it off, but I guess everything helps...

As far as side effects (Other than the irradic idle on cold starts), I do not know of any other bad ones. If there are, can someone please explain. Also, I had a webpage that explained how to do the whole thing, in very nice detail. It was from someone on this board, but I cannot remember the name... I'll look for it and post it up here if I can find the bookmark.

To just bypass the coolant from going through the throttle body you need to find two hoses from the thermostat housing. One on top and one closer the bottom and just figure a way to connect them together and then get rid of the cooler attached to it. Just did mine on an 01 odessey to make room for my short ram air intake.

I have a 2000 honda civic ex 1.6l / D16y8 as soon as i start it it revs to 4000 rpm then as soon as i touch the gas pedal it drops to 2000 rpm to 3000 rpm but it jumps in rpm anyone got any ideas of what it can be the only thing i did was take the throttle body off clean it and put it back on now its all messed up.. This is the only vehicle i have so any suggestions would be great
