Default replacing crank oil seals - easier way?

my mechanic was telling me how they can replace the crank oil seals withoil dropping the oil pan by using special picks to pull the seal out. has anyone done this on their own? is there an easier way i can change the seals? if it comes down to having to pull drop the pan and crank, i'm just gonna take it to my mechanic and let him do it.

No need to pull the pan or the crank. The seals come out by prying with a pick or a screwdriver. You have to remove the timing belt to do the front seal and the trans has to be removed to do the rear seal.

the engine is out of the car with the tranny and timing belt off. i guess what i'm asking is if this is something i can do myself, and if it is, what i need to do it? directions on how would be really cool.

easy way---take all the bolts out of the front case and there are 2 bolts u have to take out that are on the oil pan...just put the front case on like a vise and knock the old seal out with a flat screwdriver and a small hammer..put the new one in by centering it best you can..get a socket that fits around the seal nicely and tap her in gently..it will be in when it is flush with the case..good luck.
