Is it possible to shoot flames via VAFC tuing?

I know this is a pretty dumb thing to ask, but is there a way to shoot flames during shifts like all the cool road-race cars do on TV by changing the fuel enrichment with an A'Pex-i VAFC? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

My car sometimes makes huge loud pops when I shift, usually after the engine is pretty hot. Does anyone know what causes this? I want small fireballs when this happens!!

you have issues...

anyways, drill and tap a hole in your tail-pipe and stick a spark plug in it. hook the spark plug up to a wire & switch and when you flip the switch the spark plug will ignite the unburnt fuel in your exhaust. You might need to run a little rich to get a good flame.

Ahhhh I don't want a flame THROWER! I just want to know why/how the race cars shoot flames sometimes.

Watch too much 2 fast 2 furious?

If you tune your vafc to richen your fuel mixture enough to shoot flames your car will run like a bag of shit. That would kind of negate the point of even having a vafc.

If you are set on shooting fire out of your exhaust (I can't figure out why you would be, but anyway...) I believe there are kits you can buy for that. I'm sure they aren't exactly legal to use on the road, though.

you will completley destroy your catalytic converter doing that.

stop trying to be cool.

i don't have a catalytic converter. i'm just curious. why do road-race cars shoot flames if it supposedly makes them run badly?

Kamin 02-13-2004 08:46 AM

Re: (zelifcam)

it dosent make them run badly, it makes street cars run badly.

im not gonna explain out exactally what happens just know its raw fuel comming out the exhaust that ignites from the heat of racing.

Re: Is it possible to shoot flames via VAFC tuing? (zelifcam)

I think the reason a lot of track cars shoot flames when they're off the accelerator is b/c the EMS's don't shut down the injectors completely when they're off the gas, or it's due in part to a rich deceleration enleanment setting. I'd imagine that it's for better throttle retip-in response when they have to get back on the gas.

I dunno. Maybe I'm talking out of my ass.

Altho, I don't ever recall Formula 1 cars ever consistently shooting flames from the exhausts, and I could swear that all the burbling and popping you hear when they're off of the gas is from lean misfiring. Maybe it's b/c they're restricted to the total amount of fuel available throughout the entire race and fuel conservation is a bigger issue in F1 than it is in NASCAR or Australian GT races (I can't remember the name of the series with the 4dr Holden's and Ford's). The Holden's blow flames every deceleration event.

wow what a stupid topic. I can shoot flames out my a@$

OTT 02-13-2004 12:09 PM

Completely pointless., They sell a 'Flamer Kit' here in england that has a small petrol tank in the boot of the car and with a spark plug in the back-box and a pump it can shoot flames 1meter long! All the kiddie '2Fast2Furious wannabies' have them on Citreon Saxos and Crappy peugeots! Theyre a waste of money, think about it; what happens if you go into a pertrol station while its shooting flames and sum1s filling up?..

BOOM mother-fucker!! Plus theyre not road legal There just another of many money burning 'gimmick-mods' https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

Anti-lag is cool, but it eats the compressor. It's also old F1 technology.

i dig the idea on muscle cars, but on a import, nah bud. I would most likely laugh pretty hard if i saw your civic or something cruising down the road with flames coming out as you were downshifting, setting your plastic bumper and paint on fire.

Sobe_Death 02-13-2004 08:28 PM

yeah its not worth the trouble to try and put flamers on a fuel injected vehicle. carbs are a different story now, much easier!
