oil squirters?
are the oil squirters nessesary on a b18c1 motor, the reason why i ask is because im putting a b18a1 crank/rods in the b18c1 motor. The thing is that the crank and block clears but the crank is not clearing with the oil squirters, and would it affect my revs for high rpms if i was to remove the oil squirters?
another thing that i was wondering if weather if i use SRP pistons which pistons can i use with my set up the gsr pistons from SRP or the ls from SRP? THANKS |
Re: oil squirters? (B18C1_T)
The motor will not have the added high rpm cooling, but they are not completely neccisary. LS-VTECs and B20VTECs don't have them.

Re: oil squirters? (ATXhybrid)
so then most ls/vtec on this board do add oil squirters in some cases?

Re: oil squirters? (B18C1_T)
I've never heard of anybody adding oil squirters to the LS/VTEC. They help, but are mostly a product of Honda's obsessive engineering. As long as your cooling system is up to spec you should have no problems at all. Many sleeved motors don't use the squirters either.

Re: oil squirters? (Spade)
ok thanks again...how about the pistons situation?
|
Re: oil squirters? (B18C1_T)
Use the LS pistons if you use LS rods and crank.
|
Re: oil squirters? (ATXhybrid)
is the gsr/ls have the same deck height? and if i was to use gsr pistond would i need to modifiy my rods?

Re: oil squirters? (B18C1_T)
I plugged my B18c squirters with pipe plugs. Have a machine shop do the pipe threads as they are hard to get at. Not necessary with forged pistons. Remember they feed from the main oil galley so you must clean out the shavings.
|
Re: oil squirters? (earl)
so when you plugged them did you had any future problem? and were the plugs custom made or can you buy it from a local hardware store? and about the pistons that you mentioned? i wouldnt have to modified them?

Re: oil squirters? (B18C1_T)
ive heard racemotor builders usally block of oil squirts because of the added weight of oil squirting... truth to this?
|
Re: oil squirters? (mlambrecht)
um the most these weight is max couple grams ...or do you mean the squirting of the oil??

Re: oil squirters? (B18C1_T)
i mean the oil
|
Re: oil squirters? (mlambrecht)
By plugging the squirters you do save a little reciprocating weight on the underside of the piston. Also helps the oil pressure/volume as there is more for the rest of the engine. Best plug is an allen head style in 1/8th pipe thread. Probably find them at a speciality hardware store. No other changes needed as long you use forged pistons.

Re: oil squirters? (earl)
thanks EARL FOR the helps

Re: oil squirters? (B18C1_T)
You have to modify LS rods to run GSR/ITR/CTR pistons. Deck height is the same. I don't use the oil squirters on my block and every engine builder that I talked to said that they are unnecessary with forged pistons.
|
Re: oil squirters? (b19coupe)
thanks, so is it better off to run ls forged pistons for lower compression for turbo?
|
Re: oil squirters? (earl)
Okay if you plug up your oil squirters then you are asking for a fuck up. Yes they do make an oil squirter kit for B20 and LS. Ever herd of some one redlining there LS/Vtec and there shit blows up becasue the ls/b20 bottom end cant handle the revs of a GSR/B16 head?
|
Re: oil squirters? (SpoonfedDC2)
so your saying earl is giving me improper tip on how to build my motor? if you can help out more then tell me what i need to do now?
|
Re: oil squirters? (SpoonfedDC2)
Earl is correct, oil squirters are pretty much unnecissary all they do is cool the piston slightly (but add weight). As for LS being unable to rev as high as GSR and B16 has nothing to do with the oil squirters it has to do with rod/stroke ratio and piston speed. Every person I personally know with full drag cars running GSR motors have disabbled there oil squirters.

Re: oil squirters? (B18C1_T)
Ok lets see,There is a reason why honda put the oil squirters in there blocks.....First off the b16a ,b18c1 and the b18c5 has higher compression then a LS motor and the LS doesnt rev past 7000 rpms...And the LS has low compression so that mean the motor doesnt get as hot as all the other motor..OH the H22a has oil squiters too.....The reason that people dont put oil squirters in there motors, Because they are not daily drivers..they go down the drag strip for about 9-10 sec and park it and when they are done they dont drive them home they put them on a trailer...those are real race cars....Not the daily drivers that do 12 and above....And if your going to turbo the motor keep the squirters...the turbo will heat up the pistons really fast.....Look at Eclipse motors they have turbo's and they have oil squirters...

Re: oil squirters? (allmotrb18c1)
so oil squirters is a must?

Re: oil squirters? (ninesecrx)
[QUOTE]So you think that on a race car that that can run the kind of nubers to go 9's and 8's doesnt make heat?[QUOTE]
I didt say that they dont make heat...But while your race care is done for the day do you take it to the shop and take it apart and look at stuff and changer bearings and change stuff that wear???While your race car is in the trailer waiting for the next big race,The person that has the daily driver is driving it around town..How about this,Hoiw many mile do you put on your race car??Ummmm maybe around 500-1000...if not then you dont have a real race car...Do you really think the real drag guys and girls keep the same motor they used that weekend and take it to another race...Hell no they take it apart and put new shit in it.....For a daily driver KEEP the Squirters.......ITs a longevity thing... Thanks Ross |
