oil pump plug ?

anyone know what that freeze plug thing on the oil pump is? is it possible to use that is a place to mount a sending unit for a oil pressure guage? i was just curious ive never taken one out before so i dont know what its purpose is

There's a spring behind that plug, it's best to tap your oil sending unit into the stock location with a 1/8"NPT T fitting.
