OBX LSD????
 

I just recieve mine in the mail, should I strip it down and rebuild it or did they fix all there problems. Please dont reply if you are not running one currently.

i think it is a good idea when i got mine i took it apart cleaned it all up followed the instructions posted up on the web!

There are some good threads on this other then that i have had no problems and am happy with the item!

I got mine about three years ago, took it apart, looked at it, put the washers in the right way, and put it back together. Haven't had any problems with it. However, I did find that with mine, the bolts holding it together were slightly loose...

I've installed 16 OBX's so far, number 17 into a GSR tomorrow night, all I do is make sure the allen bolts are tight.

Never a complaint.

Those washers are only there to control noise, not for preloading. This is coming from Quaife UK.

Didn't tear mine apart, just made sure everything was tight. Been in my car for about 6K miles now, haven't had any issues and works like a charm. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

But that's HOW they control noise - by preloading. It's one and the same.

I'm not talking to anyone. The washers are springs. The springs compress when the case is tightened. The compressed springs exert pressure on the sun gears. The sun gears press against the housing.

If that's not preload, I don't know what is. I don't care if you're a self-proclaimed "trans master" or not - I didn't write a complete OBX breakdown write-up just to have people question my knowledge, which is ultimately common sense to begin with.

The problem is that everyone wants to feel SO knowledgeable about transmissions. But the reality is that a manual transmission is just about the simplest car part I can think of. It's nothing but gears and bearings. Building one is like playing with Legos. It's not like an engine, where there is a whole lot of theory behind everything - it's just a bunch of gears. If you understand how a helical gear works, you know all you need to.

I see a lot of overconfidence, especially among members of the tech/misc forum, simply because they've built a few transmissions. Well guess what - ANYONE can build a transmission. It only takes a few hours. I'm fairly certain that you could train a monkey to do it.
