I have a Nissan 240sx which is my daily driver and when I put the key to 'ignition', instead of hearing the usual high pitch sound of the fuel pump, the fuel pump relay in the engine bay makes a buzzing noise...it's just as long as how long the fuel pump usually humms before you start the car.

Sometimes the fuse will just click, other times, it buzzes for about 4 seconds. ECU diagnostics says code 55 which means no problems found by ECU.

I checked continuity on fuse to see if it was blown and the proper pins have continuity. Any clue on what the heck is going on?

you should check your relay make sure your getting the corresponding volatages and recistance at the right pins, and then check your fuel pump to se eif it has developed high recistance (broken)

Yeah, a relay will do this if it is not closing properly. My alarm was doing this, and it turned out I had a dead battery.

Ok, thanks...that fixed the problem...it must've been dirty battery termianls.

BUT, now I have another problem. I just swapped the engine on this car. and it's barely running (now that I got the fuel pump to work).

ECU is throwing no error codes, fuel pump is working, good compression in all 4 cylinders, and getting spark from each spark plug. Any suggestions on how to figure it out?

When the car starts, it's running very rough and will eventually just die...or if I try to give it gas, it'll just die.

check the MAF meter if its dirty or any obstructions

So I started checking tons of things, vacuum leaks, IACV valve, distributor, injectors...all checked out.

Finally i started swapping old parts from the old engine, swapped IACV, injectors, and then when I took off the distributor, water poured out from inside of the distributor! IT was sitting out in the rain and water was sitting in the distributor. I guess not enough to short it but it wasn't giving enough spark or something (because I checked all four and they were at least giving a spark visually).

Anyway, put the distributor from original engine on and it worked fine. What a pain to have to troubleshoot something like that...
