New tranny which one is it?

my friend is about to buy a new tranny the guy says its a 97 jdm type r tranny. On the tranny it says J4d lsd?

Never heard of it. That's not to say it's not exactly what the seller says it is, I've just never heard of it. Nor could I find any reference to such a beast. Anyone?

does it have a VIN plate on the tranny?
