Default My cars knocking what can i do!?!?!

My engine just got rebuilt
My CR is around 11:1 USDM ITR pistons, Mugen head gasket, head milled .030

it knocks fairly bad between 2000 RPMS and 3000 RPMS when put under load, ie: 5 th gear at about 25 mph

the knocking is also apparent when i start the car.
Im forced to run crappy 91 octane, i still havent had a chance to run an octane booster yet. But im trying to see if there is a way around running octane boost with every fillup, gas is expensive enough as it is.

My Fuel pressure gauge reads 42 PSI at idle and i was thinking this was slightly low, i dont have a regulator yet.

any help is much appreciated

Maybe you should try using the octane booster to see if the low octane gas is the problem. If you find that the octane is too low you'll have to get higher octane or retard your ignition.

I had the same problem. Like the last poster mentioned; add some octane booster and maybe retard your timing and the knocking should go away.

The gas may be too low of octane to run at that compression (also depends on what altitude you are at).

Retard your ignition timing by turning the distributor torwards the firewall (looking at it, turn it to the right) a little, and see if that fixes the problem.

okay thanxs for the suggestions guys, i will try retarding the ignition timing a couple degrees and by the way its towards the radiator to retard the timing

oh my god, I knew this I honestly don't know what I was thinking lol. (that's why I said turn to the right, but meant radiator support)

thanks for the correction

I would advise pulling back a degree or two of timing.

An adjustable FPR couldn't hurt either, raise the fuel pressure up a bit.

Upgrading ignition system would be a wise choice also.

when you guys check your timing, is it true you activate the service jumper. I heard the only way to get a true reading of the cars ignition timing is to do this?

was i misinformed?

You are correct.
To accurately set base timing, you must jump the service connector.
