Minimal grinds in b16 transmission...any way to try to correct it?
hey guys I've just been searching the forums and read Michael's thread about his ITR tranny grinding 5th gear.
This past weekend I threw in a b18b and a 2000 b16a2 transmission into my car. Running a Exedy stage 1 clutch/flywheel/throwout bearing and a June 10lb flywheel.
I put in 75W90 synthetic gear oil into my transmission and when I drive the car hard, you can feel the synchro's not mating properly in 1-2 gear, and from 2-3 sometimes there is a very minimal grind when shifting. Previous owner a buddie of mine never had any grinds in the transmission and took care of it well.
Is there anything I can do with the clutch pedal adjustment to help correct this? should I pour in a non-synthetic transmission fluid? what kind transmission fluid would be most recomended to put in?
looking for ideas here, searched and couldn't find much about my questions.
thanks

75W90 is pretty thick for a Honda tranny. Use some Honda MTF and see how that does. It's viscosity is very similar to motor oil, perhaps the thicker lube is causing the grinds.

save yourself some time and put gm / penzoil synchromesh in it. almost every b16 tranny grinds even with honda mtf, synchromesh will almost eliminate it.........and now for the synchromesh haters.

Thanks, I've done some reading and I'm going to call the dealership and order the GM Synchromesh anti-friction formula part #: 12377916
just was wondering if there is anything I cna do with my clutch pedal to help overcome this shifting?

Are you asking if there is an adjustment in the clutch pedal to help reduce the grind? The answer to that is no. If the clutch is not engaging or disengaging properly, you can bleed the clutch system. If that doesn't work, there is minimal movement you can do with the pedal height.
As far as the grind, get some syncromesh and hope that does the trick. It could be a short term fix for the inevitable though.

ok thanks man yea you answered my question.
Does anybody know any sites that you can buy the GM Synchromesh Friction modified part #: 12377916 fluid from? I've tried my local dealerships and they can't get it

Re: (Mr.RHTuner)
Maybe I am an isolated case but I was running the MTF before I blew my motor, rebuilt the motor and drained the tranny oil and put in syncromesh now I grind 1-2 and 2-3 above 7k.

but the thing is, it should help regardless.
By the time I will work this out with the seller, it should help but i doubt it will get rid of it all the way.
seems like i'll be getting the 3/4 synchro's ordered soon
