Low rpm vibration..axles?
I looked through search, but couldn't find an answer to my problem. Here's the deal...lol
I was driving back from the dyno a couple weeks ago and noticed a little vibration around 65mph. I figured it was just my alignment off and didn't pay much attention to it. A couple days later I floored it in 2nd gear and around the time vtec came in it started vibrating worse and before 3rd came, ...thud..thud..thud..ect. It felt like a flat tire/ badly bent wheel. I figured I had broken an axle. I pulled over and luckily I was right in front of my neighborhood, so I limped home.
Anyway. I replaced both front axles and it is still vibrating, only now it does it at low rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and slightly in 4th. I put the car on jackstands tonight and let it roll in 1st gear. It looks like both axles are bent b/c there is movement up and down as I look at the shaft spinning.
It seems to be smooth where the axle goes into the tranny on the passenger side, but has some wobble where the axle goes into the intermediate shaft. I replaced my old axles with some autozone rebuilts. Is it possible they are bad as well? Could my gears be bent in my tranny, or would that be pretty obvious? (no metal in tranny fluid)
The vibration stops with the clutch in and doesn't seem to necessarily be related to the speed the car is traveling. It seems to react to load on the engine more than anything. No clicking or any other noises, except for a dull hum on the interstate at 80-90mph when I press the gas. It feels more like a "wiggle" than a vibration. I've checked all the mounts and they seem to be ok (all the bolts are tight, ect).
Any ideas? I know it's hard to diagnose something without seeing it, but maybe some of you know something I don't. Thanks for any help!
