long block compared to short block
 

Ok, i was looking into a motor swap and i came upon a long block and a short block. I asked a couple of my friends and they just couldn't answer it. What is the difference, advantages and disadvantages? if any 1 could give me a site or could explain it to me that would be great. I searched but couldn't find much.

long block is a complete motor, sans tranny

short block is a complete motor, sans anything from the head and above and tranny

Longblock = block + head
shortblock = block

With each being complete? ie longblock is a complete block and a complete head (incl. distributor, alt, etc), shortblock is a complete block and bottom end incl. pistons, crank, etc?

it depends on the seller. the only essential difference is the head. The rest (IM, dist, etc) will vary by seller

i found one for you, this is they're home page. just follow it through and selct type r as model. then its listed under cylinder block/oil pan.

well i went on http://www.hmotorsonline.com and all the long block motors they sell do not come with a trans. which is some thing i need. this is what comes with it - Motor
- Intake Manifold
- Exhaust Manifold
- Injectors
- Fuel Rail
- Throttle body
- Alternator
- Distributor

what else would i need to make this swap possible ?( other than the ecu?)

-by the way i have a d15 and i want to upgrade to a b16A(dohc vtec)

You will need a b-series transmission. Any B-series transmission, but make sure you use the same style transmission as is already in your car. If your tranny is cable-actuated, then you need a cable b-series tranny. If you have a hydro, then you need a hydro b-series transmission.

youll need a clutch nomatter what you get... it may come with the old one, but they are almost always fukced up.
