Idle Issues
K so ill try to keep this brief. Basically the problems im having are that i believe the car is running rich, when i start it up cold it will hold idle at aroudn 1400rpm for like 10 seconds and then it will drop down around 600rpm and hold there while warming up (will somtimes go up a bit and then drop down like a small vac leak). When the car is warm it idles at 800rpm but sometimes after a long trip on the highway or excessive speeding the car will idle at 600rpm and when i begin moving in first and second the car will jerk and hesitate all over the place. If I turn the car off and restart it the car will idle at 800rpm and there is no hesitation/jerking. The only code im getting is a code 1 and it is really rare for it to happen so im guessing the engine is running rich and causing these problems aswell as making it throw the o2 code.
Any ideas? |

what kind of fuel mods do you have to think that its running rich?
|
none its 100% stock other than a short ram intake but u can smell gas. It may be the lack of cat on my car but i do think its running slightly rich.

Re: (scarlemthug)
Have you tried to replace your O2 sensor yet? I have to replace mine about every 8-12 tanks. I dont know why but they just die out on me. You are explaining the same problems that I do. Fuel smell, bad gas mileage, hunting around in the RPMs for no reason. Replace the O2 and see if that helps. You might also want to replace your fuel injectors. That might help.

yup ive swapped O2 sensors and it made no difference at all:(. I dont think im getting that bad gas mileage considering how much my car weighs. I would say im getting around 500-550km's a tank. All the fuel injectors are working as ive checked them but i guess they could be clogged?

btw this is a B18b1 (97) with gsr tranny swapped into a 98 dx coupe (previously auto) running an obd1 P75 ecu.

Re: (scarlemthug)
Have you checked your complete fuel system like your pump and filter and stuff? You might just have a clogged line from some bad gas or something simple like that. It could be a lot of things. Hell it even could be a small coolant leak getting into places and screwing up sensors. I had that happen when I first got my CRX. Its been doing a similar thing for almost 8 months now but I dont have the cash to really fix it. So I get like $1 O2 sensors from the wreckers and use those to temp fix the problem.
Maybe check your main fuel relay. It might be causing the problem aswell. CRX Forum |
i havent checked the pump but i know its working just not sure if its working its best. I changed fuel filters and that didnt change anything. Maybe ill run seafoam through my gas tank again and see if that helps out at all. Ive checked and changed alot of stuff and still have no idea wth is wrong with it. I know im not getting a coolant leak cause im not losing coolant so thats fine. I really hope someone has some insight cause its really annoying having to shut the car off and on sometimes.

Have you tried cleaning out your IACV?
|
yup i cleaned my IACV out, swapped with a known good IACV. Also ive screwed back in the FITV white plastic piece with no difference really.

anyone else?

Re: (scarlemthug)
what condition is your dizzy? right before my dizzy went bad, it would idle like ass and I had a feeling I was losing power once it got hot... but then again, when I took the head off this motor, one of the valves had a big chip in it.
|
dizzy is in good condition. At one point i thought the coil was bad so i swapped that with another dizzy with no change. I also have swapped rotors and caps with no difference aswell. I have swapped spark plugs and spark plug wires with no real change although i think when i swapped the plugs for the first like 5-10 minutes the car seemed to run better i think.

still looking for answers...........heres a little bit more that i noticed. I was on a long drive on sunday and while trying to hold the car steady at 120km/h i would find that every now and then the car would slow down and then pick-up speed and then slow down like the engine was missing.

Re: (scarlemthug)
Are you burning any oil?
My car had some idle issues when one of my valves started having issues. When it started running on 3 cylinders, I pulled the head and found a small chunk of the valve missing. Before I pulled the head, I ran a couple compression tests... one cylinder had about 30pis lower numbers than the other 3. Sometime later, it dropped to about 40psi lower... when it started running on 3 cylinders, it had 15psi in that cylinder... I hope it's not this problem, but a compression test is easy to do and you can even rent the tool at autozone, so it doesn't hurt to run the test. |
yeah i really hope its not bad compression, ill check it out though and cross my fingers.
