I am a dumbass post.....brokenn valve cover bolt
ok, so I take off the valve cover to do some head work on the civic, and polish up the valve cover, get the stuff I wanted to do with it, put the valve cover back on and start screwing in the bolts..
I do the bolts from side to side, and I don't screw every bolt in a line, and one of the bolts I tighten up to the way it was before and I hear "snap". I try to srew in that bolt but it wouldn't go, so I take off the rest of the 4 good bolts and take off the valve cover, to see that the screw's thread peace broke off and is stuck in the hole. I get the small bit out by making a little slot and I screw it out with a screw driver. My main problem is where can I buy the Valve Cover bolt??? and if I go purchase it, do I have to purchase the Complete 5, or just that single broken one?? any help would be great... BTW: I am a dumbass for not using a torque wrench |

If its the one that sits under the valve cover and holds the nuts that hold the valve cover on you can go buy them individually (dealership). I broke one too before.

Basically this is the bolt that holds down the Valve cover and is screwed into the block...
I hope were talking about the same bolt |

the dealership has 'em for like $3 bucks for a set.

Re: (poison)
I once broke one of the studs that holds on the valve cover and spark plug cover. It was like 4 bucks to replace. You need a deep socket to replace them

Haha, im missing 2 of the studs too. When I was changing my headgasket my friend snapped one off and me and friends talked so much shit to him and gave him a hard time.
THEN I snapped one off https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif |
Re: I am a dumbass post.....brokenn valve cover bolt (intekragsr)
using a torque wrench to tighten your valve cover would be like using one to put back on your bottle top (soda)...
just tighten them a touch... it's just to keep in the oil and out the weather/water. and like everyone else said... dealer. |

Re: I am a dumbass post.....brokenn valve cover bolt (mugen85r)
The hex nut is under the valve cover, you should still be able to get it out even if it snaps under the cover.
