h22 rear main seal (crankshaft) - help?!

Hey fellas!

Well, i'm currently finishing up some work on my brother's 93 h22a, and i've run into a little issue i'd like to get some imput on.

I've installed the crankshaft rear seal (flywheel side) with the cover off, following those instructions;

I was supposed to keep 0.5 - 0.8mm between the bottom of the cover and the seal (not pushing the seal all the way in) but after many attempts (little more, little more, need some more, f*ck!!) i went right trough..

I did not want to risk damaging the seal pushing it back out so i installed it this way, following the instructions and slightly oiling the crankshaft boss and seal lip before putting the cover/seal back on. Today, after installing the timing belt and giving the engine a few turns to make sure everything works correctly, i noticed a nice pack of grease at the bottom of the rear seal;

That was the grease what was originally inside the seal, and it doesnt seem normal that it would come out like this...Most probably, it will literally piss oil, what do you guys think?

Worst case, i'll try re-installing it properly, i just hope it wont get damaged while i'm removing it. What should i expect?

I can't tell if those grease areas are from damage or grease just wiped onto the crank during installation. It looks to me like it's time to buy a new seal and try again. What did you use to install it?

Well i guess i'll try it again with a new one, luckily i've got another laying around for my F23, same part number :)

I first used an old balancer belt sprocket to drive it in squarely, then a useless ford bronco oil filter to drive it in deeper (sprocket bottoms out on cover, filter is almost same diameter as seal). Yeah it's ghetto, i know!

put a little oil around the outside of the seal and it'll go in much easier.
