I have an issue with the front balancer shaft bearing. When we took the engine out of the car, the seal had popped out and the balancer shaft had alot of end play. It turned out the retainer and it's bolts heads were missing, they apparently had been thorn apart (bolts threads were still in the block). The missing parts were never to be found, it seems the problem occured with the previous owner (this engine didnt run for long after being installed, maybe 5000km)

Now, the front bearing and it's surroundings are pretty messed up, as you can see;





There are small chunks of the bearing that are missing, if i pass my nail on it i can feel a slight depression.

Now, i already know the answer, but could the balancer shaft possibly be run on that surface? I doubt so.. I cant replace the bearing at the moment (would have to remove the crankshaft and alot more) so i guess i'll run the engine without them for the summer, take out the engine at the end of the season, and rebuild it as necessary.

you can run without them, no problem. probably your best option (cheap and easy) is to reinstall and run w/o the belt.

the other option is to do a balance shaft delete. there are kits available for around $130 or the DIY method which is much cheaper but you need to know what you're doing. i'm sure there is a how-to for this somewhere in the forums.

yeah for the moment i'll run it without the balancers, if i dont like it i'll fix it in a few months, or delete them when i re-take the engine out of the car hehe
