i could get mine out when i did my swap, but since then i can't get it out when i've had to do clutch/flywheel jobs. Its a pain in the *** changing a clutch under the car with teh trans like, RIGHT THERE...no room.

Anyways, I'd like to know too, because I'll be pulling the engine soon which I'll need to get the pin out.

As stated - you may not think its moving, but keep at and it will. You'll probably think your going to **** up the shift shaft from banging on that pin so hard - but no worries.

after amany days with hitting it with a punch for 8 hours a day, i finally gave up on that, found a metal rectangle bar about 2" thick and put it on the top of the shiftlinkage, grabbed my gear pulley and started pushing it out. it finally broke and slide out half centimeter or so and i also broke my gear puller, but then after i broke the rust on the pin i used my punch and it came out easy after that. put a bolt back in, in its place

just drop the trans with the linkage. two bolts and the **** compared to banging on the pin.... id just leave it. i ran in to the same problem a bunch of times. sometimes banging on it does it after time. then there was one where i used an air hammer and it still didn't come out. ended up using a torch with the punch.

i use an air hammer and about 4 seconds of my time to knock out the ones i do.

i just want to pay a HT member from NJ to do it.. i got a 5/16 punch (5/16=8mm). this "bitch pin" is bitch

Honestly, if you're using a regular carpenters hammer, it won't cut it. You need something with some mass - 10lb mini-sledge. I tried to get this pin out using the claw hammer initially, but it just didn't have the weight behind it.

And you're using a NON-tapered punch, correct - for the most part, it should look like a bolt with no threads. If it has a taper to it, all your going to do is spread the pin apart while trying to push it out - counter productive to one another.

Also, do you have the car high enough in the air to get a decent swing on it? A small swing radius + little hammer = frustrated you.

Again, beating that ****** out leads one to think they're gonng bend/tweak something from how hard they gotta pound on it - but it is just whats needed.

It took me anywhere from a minute to 10 minutes to hammer mine out, depending on how much room I had underneath the car. It does get frustrating, but it will come out.

gettin rusty on me andy??? ten minutes? hehe

i use an impact hammer with a punch. gets it out in like 5 seconds.

Pin punch, and hammer it down from the top of the engine compartment (disconnect the stabalizer bar, and get a big *** extension)

For the record. Do NOT use a bolt in it's place, unless you want a super duper sloppy shifter. I made that mistake.

yup put a bolt in there and you alway feel like you're in nuetral all the time...I feel it. A key point to get that pin out is use a good size hammer, I spend about 1 hour with a small little hammer, and only less than 1/4 of if come out . When I use a bigger hammer, less than 10 minute

idk what you guys talking about. my shifter is fine. it shifts perfect. has less play then my friends 5th gen civic. mine is a 4th gen.

but would also like to note that, after i got the bitch pin out, i couldnt seperate the tranny and the shift linkage, so after all that work to get the bitch pin out, i ended up pulling the motor with the shiftlinkage still connected and i didnt need to take out the bitch pin. so thats probably why i dont have much play because it still stuck in position all rusted

i dont know what size punch... but an air hammer does the job very well with some wd40.... i got mine out in several minutes.

Yes, it probably is stiff because it is still stuck.

I used what I thought was a perfect size bolt through that hole, and it felt more sloppy than your mom
