My car won't start after checking the timing. I didn't change the timing or anything. I took off the #1 plug at the cap to hook in the wire for the timing gun, checked it, looked good, and took it out. Tried to start the car, then noticed the #1 plug wasn't on all the way on the cap. I pushed it back in. And now the car won't start at all. It just sits there and cranks over. Did I mess something up with my distributor? This is pissing me off. Thanks all.

Ok I took of the cap, and everything looks alright. Was going to test the coil, but I can't get the leak cover off. What do you gotta do to get that off, or should I be looking at something else. 2am here and I got work in morning, this sucks

pull ecu fuse, wait 10 seconds, reinstall.

Start car.

Tried resetting ECU, still just sits there and cranks. Won't start. Anybody else??

EDIT: I took of the cap and got to the ignition coil. I measured the Primary Winding Resistance and got 0.6 ohms (manual says 0.6-0.8)
Measured the Secondary Winding Resistance, and its 9.06 kohms (manual says 12.8-19.2 kohms) So I assume this is my problem. Anybody else agree or even know what the hell I'm talking about??

pull a plug out and attach it back to the spark plug boot. crank the car and see if you're getting any spark. if not, you probably need to replace the coil and/or ignitor.

to get that dust boot off, you need to take the rotor off. to take the rotor off, you need to have the screw for the rotor facing exactly to the rear of the car.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

Replaced the ignition coil, put everything back on, fired right up.

Tested the resistance on the new coil, and it was 16.45 kohms, right within specs.

But I'm still confused what happened. Just by trying to start the car without one of the wires at the cap hooked up and it messed up the coil? Or was is just on its way out regardless? Anyways. Thanks all!!!!

sounds like coil was on its way out. At least you didn't get stranded on the side of the road.

That's all it takes. It's not very often that they will do it, but it happens sometimes. That's why they recomend grounding the coil output or disabling the ignition when doing a compression test.

I followed c-speeds instructions for th compression test, by pulling the ECU fuse. Does that disable the igition system?
