engine components compatability?

bought a 97 4dr civic lx wit a salvage title(theft) thats why it has different engine components from different honda engines. acceleration is really slow. makes a ticking sound while accelerating.acceleration is worst when timing is set to neutral. how do i make the vtec work? are these components or parts compatible wit each other?

engine: d16y8
head: p08-4 stamped on it
distributor: td-42u
ECU: p2e-a01

Re: engine components compatability? (4dek)

is the p08 head compatible with the d16y8 block?
is the td-42u distributor compatible with the p2e ecu?
is the td-42u distributor compatible with p08 head?
is the p2e compatible with the p08 head?
sorry for the questions. im so confused ryt now

Re: engine components compatability? (4dek)

I believe your problem is the ecu since it's a non-vtec ecu and the other things are for a vtec engine. This depends if everything is wired correctly and the engine is put together correctly. The p08 head is a d16z6 head and the dizzy is from the same. You can use the p08 head on the y8 block if they used the right headstud, but other things could matter like did they even put the engine together correctly? Also you have to make sure they wired the dizzy correctly to the obd2a harness since td-42u is obd1. You also still have to wire in vtec i'm guessing since you said it's not working which by judging from your questions I get a professinal to do since it's not that easy if you don't know what you're doing. Did they even use an obd2a engine harness? There could be countless things but the first thing I would try is get a p28 or converted p06 ecu and obd2a-obd1 conversion harness and go from there. If everything was installed and wired correctly, which i doubt it was, this should solve your problem. Wheew there is my good deed for the month.

Re: engine components compatability? (4dek)

what more help do you need? I told you first most obvious thing that is wrong with your setup already. Did you try switching the ecu to a obd2a p2p vtec ecu? The p2e is non-vtec ecu for the d16y7.

Re: engine components compatability? (KENetics1)

isnt p2p ecu for d16y8 engine?would it work with the d16z6 head which is 0bd1.my engine is d16y8(which is obd2) and has a d16z6(which is obd1), so i should use an obd1 ecu ryt?

yeah i had a brain fart there. In my original reply I said to get a conversion harness and use a p28 or converted p06 ecu. For some reason I thought it was y8 head on z6 block the second time around. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif

no one will know unless you actually had pictures of your wiring and even then it's a little hard without actually seeing it in person. try the conversion harness and p28 ecu first because you are going to need those no matter what anyways.
as for wiring good luck, everything you'll need is here:

got the p28 and conversion harness but i ran into another problem, car was idling bad. could it be my iac? my car has a 3 wire iac and i think p28 ecu only reads 2 wire iac am i right? if this is the problem, is there anyway i can convert my iac to a 2 wire? http://is.rely.net/1-92-65076-l-NREc...mLFY3DaZnA.gif

Re: engine components compatability? (KENetics1)

can i do this even if i still use the 3 wire iac?or do i have to swap my manifold to a manifold that has 2wire iac? by the way im using the d16y7 manifold and which has the 3 wire iac.
