ECU testing?

Does anyone know of a way to test an ECU? I bought a car without a motor but I am swapping the motor and want to sell the old ECU from the car but I don't have anyway of testing it on the car as of now..

The car is a 93 Del Sol

Re: ECU testing?

It was the stock ecu in a 93 del sol si auto... other than that I don't know off hand or what markings on it indicate what ecu it is

Re: ECU testing?

What do you need to test the ecu for?

Re: ECU testing?

I just want to see if there's anything wrong with it... if it's good then I was going to sell it

Re: ECU testing?

so its xxxxx-p28-axx last 2 numbers has a 5 in it somewhere?

im not sure about running auto ecus in manual car, auto ecu codes?

ideally it would need to be test in a auto sohc v d16z6, like eg auto ex

maybe someone could chip in on running auto ecu's in manual cars, i mean there is always converting it to manual but idk if ud want to do that

Re: ECU testing?

It's fine testing out an auto ecu in a manual car. You'll just throw the CEL for the auto something. Won't hurt anything.

Re: ECU testing?

so basically if it gets plugged into a d16z6 motor and it actually starts and doesn't throw any codes it should be good? sorry i'm not very experienced on the technical side of ECU's and all... haha anything else mechanically I am fine on but electronics are another ballgame...

Re: ECU testing?

if it starts, it will throw the auto sensor code. if thats the only codes then it should be no problem converted to manual. the only thing you might not know is if the automatic circuitry works. but most people who would buy it will convert it to manual anyways

Re: ECU testing?

Throwing a CEL will be normal. As long as it's not a solid CEL then the ecu is working properly.
