Ebay upgrades, does any of it work?

Kinda says it all,in the title. Does any of that generic performance product work. The resistor that suppose to give u hp, or the voltage regulator, or well any of it. Just wondering who had tried it and if,it helped at all lol.

It works. To empty your wallet. Does it increase performance? Absolutely not.

my buddy bought one of those mugen or some shit chips in HS, his dad put it and the car didn't run worth a shit after. DON'T DO IT!

If you can't afford to buy the nice/quality parts, leave the car the hell alone! You will only **** it up!

This is a gamble and NOT recommended. There is no such thing as an Ebay turbo kit. There are sellers that hock off branded merchandise at a cheap price and often even cheaper quality ON Ebay so there is no consistency to the product you get. These kinds of products are crapshoots and you get what you pay for. Most good turbos by themselves cost as much as a whole Ebay kit. Think about that next time you cheap out on one of them. And if you're one of those that haven't had any issues with them them then count yourself as lucky and go buy yourself a Mega Millions lottery ticket.

i know theres no such thing as ebay brand. but i said ebay off brand. people usually know what i mean.

i also said you get what you pay for.

people run 9 seconds on quarter mile with ebay off brand turbo kits. i know they arent good to most people but some might think different. it all matters on perspective.

if your learning and trying to do it cheap as possible i would say do it. ccc racing in albany specilize in ebay turbos and they go damn fast for a crummy ebay emusa turbo kit.

also you could piece together a turbo kit with a nice turbo. i have seen over 400whp on a $1000 budget using ebay off brand parts and a holeset turbo.

ebay kits are not reccomnded???? says who you?

i would do it if i had little to no money just o go fast.

we all know quality cost $$$$$ so if you spend $100 dont expect that turbo to be as reliable or flow as much as a quality name brand $1000 turbo

the only voltage thing that worked was the original Jacobs unit that gave you a consistent voltage for the ignition and fuel pump, but that was discontinued when they were bought out

stock ignition can make 400whp+ with oem honda stuff.so dont upgrade that until you push it to its limit

Re: Ebay upgrades, does any of it work?

I would say your best bet is to look for someone on here with a good reputation who is selling a quality turbo, then piece together your own kit, at least that way you know what you are getting. I never buy anything like that from them, they don't make stuff for an 86 anyway, so it's strictly a do it yourself deal

I was just making a point, that was a good quality product though, you always have the option of MSD stuff for sale if you want to do an ignition upgrade

i was making a point too. i wouldnt waste money on any igniton upgrades. you might need colder plugs or hotter but thats all i would mess with.

you have a option to upgrade it but its not worth it for a stock motor. coil on plug i would swap to but thats not needed

Re: Ebay upgrades, does any of it work?

here you go this MUST work because it's GREEN!!!! :thud: and when it fails in five minutes your engine goes: :boom:

Our blow off valves are easily adjustable to prevent both permature boost leakage and compressor surge, and the valve to diapharm ratio provide performance that cheep piston types can not offer.

that permature boost leakage sounds like a personal problem doesn't it? :P

So no aftermarket ecus from ebay unless name brand and if I feeling like getting a crappy turbo kit which is still a turbo ok, lmao no one stuck the cookie cutter in there intake or a boat motor bilge pump Lol. Can a d16y8 handle turbo with no internal work, thought I saw a faq about this but im on my phone and its a pain lol.

It's not just me. I can also see you skimmed over the parts where I said if you were one of the people that have had no issue with them then count yourself lucky. I've seen too many horror stories over in many forced induction forums of ignorant people and Ebay bought turbo kits. People that seem to make these work are those that put the time in to optimize the install. If you're a pimple faced high school kid that only wants to impress your friends then put one on, don't buy an EMS or upgrade the fuel system and report back when your engine grenades.

So do I recommend them? Nope.

mines 26 years old so the ignition isn't quite up to modern standards, but with a modern one you are correct factory is fine

Do some real research. Start with the Forced Induction FAQs for one.

Ebay flat out sucks, End of story.

Im a 13 year user in good standing, and while I have had my share of good experiences,For CAR PARTS I would avoid Ebay at all costs.

Everyone needs to stop being so fukin mystified by the allure of low cost parts, Deals! And the feeling of somehow, Some way, You beat the system! You got your parts cheaper than anyone else, Your the fukin man!

Experienced users know how it ends, and most people will just have to learn the hard way.

I've had good luck with name brand parts being sold as used but nothing new , I wonder if they make a matching green anodized turbo to go with that blowoff valve?

If it's a weekend/track car, then sure. But I would never run such a low-quality kit on any car I cared about.

If you replace the turbo, wastegate and BOV, you could potentially have a reliable kit. However, you still have to worry about the manifold and downpipe cracking, and of course fitment issues. Nobody is arguing that the low quality kit will work, it's an issue of severely reduced longevity.

Ask him how many miles are on his turbo Y8.

This sums it up nicely.

the one part i would buy off ebay is intake pipes. air intakes are just metal pipes with a filter..(don't use an ebay filter btw, get a k&n)
