distributor problem
well i made a few posts about my girlfriends car not running right, well after a few days of trouble shooting, i said fuck it and took it to honda, well they replaced the ignitor in the dist and it cured the big problem of it dying at high rpms, but now it doesnt start all the time, and trhe tech told me it is 99.9% the distributor, something about the coil not sending a signal to send fuel, when it doesnt start, im getting spark, just no fuel... does this sound about right?

Re: distributor problem (eknine)
hmm...I would say to just replace the entire dizzy.
This happened to my eg, it would start sometimes and run shitty, or not start at all. Other times it ran like a top right up until it would die. Turns out the bearing was bad. The bearing would bind and stop the rotor from distributing the spark, but it wouldn't bind all the time. It was basically a random, intermittant failure, that drove me crazy until I figured it out. Oh yeah, about 3 month before my car died and the mechanic replaced the ICM and coil, but not the entire dizzy. I believe that I would not have had those problems if he had just replaced it, instead of repaired it. Do it right, do it yourself, and put in a new distributor. It really isn't that difficult. |
Re: distributor problem (BeerMan)
it could be your main relay too.

oh yeah, that too https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif I also forgot to mention that if it is the bearing you can probably hear it squeak or grind when the car is on. |
thanks alot, i just talked to a shop here, and they new it was the relay before i even mentioned the dist. problem, they asked if it was hot as hell in the car when it wouldnt start, and if it was cooler out would it start, and he was right, so im going to replace the main relay today, and thanks for the bearing tip, when its running it always runs great, but then when it wont turn over, thats it it just wont run. there is no bad running. where exacxtly is the main relay?

Re: (eknine)
relay looks like a little box. they are under the dash, or to the right of thr drivers left foot.
you can look in a shop manual to test it. |
