Re: d17 build up (d17a turbo)

I gots a D17 also w I/H/E .. pulleys... its not too bad but limited unfortunately. Dont waste your money like i did on this.. get the K20, there are lots of resources where you can get them for cheaper just search around. Turbo 'ing it isnt worth it either as it will kick the sh*t outta it in no time or just turn the boost almost off.

K20 in Canada so far is about 6000, they will come down though..

peace

Re: d17 build up (biff)

I personaly running d17 motor, I have been struggling about whether get SF turbo or swap k20a2, I had to finally choose turbo, because the fact is k20 swap is not only about the engine, there are lots lots lots of other accessories will be neccessary, few parts I can remember for now, RSX A/C lines, Axels, SI radiators, Custom Mount kit, Subframe, these accessaries will cost around another 2 grand minimum, you are looking at in US:

k20a2: $4000-$5000
Accessaries: $2000-$2500
Installation: $1000-$1500 (depends on which shop) If things are not done correctly even one small part, you will be facing alot problem.

I don't mean to discourage your goal, I had people from houston had it done before, and yea the power is great, bottom line is if you have extra 10 grand to spend for its future potential with turbo or just running all motor, I suggest you go for it. But if you don't have that type of money and still want the power either have your D17 full built or little mods and bolt on a turbo kit (I recommend SF)

As far as people blown up their trannies or whole engine while boosting, there must be something they are doing right, maybe overheated, or boosting too high. I personally setup my ride with basic SF kit w/alcohol injection with turbo .60 upgrade, equal length manifold and some gauges and controllers to manage them. If you want more power and boost more than 9 psi you can either change low compression pistons and rods, use greddy emanage for your fuel system, larger injector, fuel pump. Hope this helps on your decision. I just don't wanna see people going through what I went through, it was tough decision but definitely a smart one. Enjoy your 04 D17 https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
