Default D15B7 MLS Headgasket question.

Can I run a d16y8 or y7 headgasket on a d15b7?? I need MLS but need it like next day. Any help is appreciated

You can but it will up the compression that you will have to retard the ignition timing to avoid pinging (detonation) on high load/high rpm. The piston goes to .002" from deck height so the gasket is what provides your quench and squish zones.

The D16Z6/Y8/Y7 head gaskets are thinner than the graphite gasket that normally is on the B7. The B7 mls gasket is a thicker 4 layer mls. It's also known as the leak gasket as it was what was to replace the graphite one in the event of a HG leak. The thinner gasket reduces the quench below optimal specification and is why detonation is increased when used.

Please note you need new head bolts if you are switching to the mls gaskets. it's part of the TSB 97-047 regarding the graphite gasket to mls gasket for 88-95 non vtec motors.
