D series Tech
 

my question is:
will the D16Y8 head bolt up to a Z6?? are there any benefits to this? i know the Y8 intake is a good upgrade but not sure what the rest of the head would do for me. if i were to get one i would most likely build it up first but i just wanted so see if it fit. i know someone getting rid of one so that is why i am asking.

well the z6 head gas a 34cc combustion chamber and the y8 has a 32cc combustion chamber wich i read on sites is a .8 difference in compression. wich does not make sense to me because the math doesnt equal out. If any one knows why its that much of a jump in compression please help out.

i have seen stats posted that there is only a .4 difference in compression between the Y8 and Z6. i would assume the bore would be the same and i would only need to check valve clearance before bolting it up??

As far as I can tell, you should have no problems. As they mentioned, the compression will be a bit higher. The 97 and up had higher comp than the 96 and earlier.

yeah they both have the same 75mm bore.

The Y8 head does have better flow characteristics than the Z head too.

how much better is the Y8 intake and head? Worth spending money on?

yeah I put a D16Y8 head on my D16Z6 block. Its ok I suppose.

hmm… that doesnt sound very convincing. maybe i'd just be better off looking for a Z6 head to start working on if i really wanted to get into head work.

Well d16y8 cr is 9.6:1 instead of 9.4:1 cr for the d16z6. Also the d16y8 came in 96 through 00 ans d16z6 92-95. People swap head all the time, but I think you need 96+ ignition because the other one is a little diferent. Later.
