D series Tech
my question is:
will the D16Y8 head bolt up to a Z6?? are there any benefits to this? i know the Y8 intake is a good upgrade but not sure what the rest of the head would do for me. if i were to get one i would most likely build it up first but i just wanted so see if it fit. i know someone getting rid of one so that is why i am asking. thanks. tom |
Re: D series Tech (sazemaster)
well the z6 head gas a 34cc combustion chamber and the y8 has a 32cc combustion chamber wich i read on sites is a .8 difference in compression. wich does not make sense to me because the math doesnt equal out. If any one knows why its that much of a jump in compression please help out.

Re: D series Tech (rainforest)
i have seen stats posted that there is only a .4 difference in compression between the Y8 and Z6. i would assume the bore would be the same and i would only need to check valve clearance before bolting it up??

Re: D series Tech (sazemaster)
As far as I can tell, you should have no problems. As they mentioned, the compression will be a bit higher. The 97 and up had higher comp than the 96 and earlier.

Re: D series Tech (mplex2000)
yeah they both have the same 75mm bore.

Re: D series Tech (rainforest)
The Y8 head does have better flow characteristics than the Z head too.

Re: D series Tech (sazemaster)
how much better is the Y8 intake and head? Worth spending money on?
Thanks!! |
Re: D series Tech (fastestdriver)
yeah I put a D16Y8 head on my D16Z6 block. Its ok I suppose.

Re: D series Tech (sazemaster)
Well d16y8 cr is 9.6:1 instead of 9.4:1 cr for the d16z6. Also the d16y8 came in 96 through 00 ans d16z6 92-95. People swap head all the time, but I think you need 96+ ignition because the other one is a little diferent. Later.
