I have 15x6 wheels which came with 195/55's. I replaced them with 205/50's with no problem. Since your wheels are narrower, you should probably try the 195/55's.

I wouldn't go any wider than a 185 on a street driven car. 185/55/15 isn't very common, but anything else would be too wide IMO.
