Which cable tranny is best?

I am getting ready to swap a b16 into my civic. I am having a hard time finding information on the cable trannys. Which is best for the b16? What is the difference between the s1, y1, ys1...?

s1 w/lsd. same gearing as a usdm type r but has bad 3rd gear syncro.
y1 4.2 final longer than the s1 but stronger.
ys1 92-93 gsr tranny same gearing as s1 and strong as the y1.

So would you suggest the ys1 for a b16? Also it is my understanding that the ys1 would be better because you can kit parts for it easier? Correct me if i am wrong.

I think it is the same as the s1 but with a different final drive ratio.

yeah, I'm about to swap my '95 LS w/ b18c which has a b16 head. Which cable tranny should I go. Can't really afford a hydro tranny right now. This guy is selling a j1 off 91 b16a for $350. What do you think guys?

J1 and S1 are the same thing, but i think J1's are a bit stonger. But both have the same Gear ratio. YS1 w/LSD or a J1 w/aftermarket LSD would be best. IMO

Sorry for the newbie question, I don't know shit about trannies. What is the difference btwn hydro and cable? Which came stock with which cars?

Cable clutches came in the earlyer years (??-91) They use a cable to engage and disengage the clutch. They usually wear faster then the hydro clutches.

Hydrolic cluthes came in the later years. (92-Present) Im not real sure on exacly how they work. So i dont want to give you any wrong information. But they do last longer than the cable clutches

Also a cable type tranny is cheaper then a hydro tranny. $$$ wise.

hydro tranny works similar to the way your brakes work. A hydrolic fluid is used to move a piston of some sort, whish in turn moves the clutch fork that engages the clutch. Hope that helps
