Broken reverse
http://rely.net/~htimages/smile/mad.gif
ok damnit. this has pissed me off since day 1 and today has been the final straw My car: 94 civic ex with a Second gen b16 from hondamotorsonline When: swap went in january of 2002 problem: MY REVERSE DOSENT WORK, never worked from Day 1. I have had the transmission casing off 2 times with a local genius (scott byars, 2point6 on here) and he is completley stumped. all the other gears work FINE except reverse. it just will NOT engage. if i were try to put it in reverse you can hear the selector click onto that fork but when the clutch is released all you hear is 2 gears skipping off each other. does ANYONE have any suggestions? Im going to call steve on monday and see if there is any way he can help me out. |
Re: Broken reverse (KAMiN)
There is a bolt that holds the reverse idler gear shaft in place. Are you sure this is in place?
There is also a detent ball on the fork that pushes down the idler gear. Perhaps this is missing? That piece also has some clearances (specifics are in the service manual) that could keep it from pushing down the reverse idler gear completely. How does the tranny feel when shifted by hand and when it's out of the car? How do the two reverse gears look? (the idler gear that slides up and down on the shaft and the part of the 1st gear on the countershaft that doubles as a reverse gear) Are those chewed up at all? Justin p.s. you've driven the car with no reverse for 11 months? Now THAT'S dedication http://rely.net/~htimages/smile/emsmile.gif If you're ever in Phoenix and have the transmission with you, let me know, hehe. [Modified by madslackin, 2:54 AM 11/25/2002] |
Re: Broken reverse (KAMiN)
Your tranny problems are just compiling. That sucks. I hope your able to fix it. Let us know how you resolve this.
You wouldn't consider starting over with another tranny and tranfering your FD/ LSD into that, would you? |
Re: Broken reverse (madslackin)
well heres the thing
when using the fork thar engages the idler gear, it goes in fine. but from using the selector, it will not engage. all the shift forks look great. the only thing we can think of is there is a little more lateral play in the 3rd 4th fork than the other 2. and it might be hanging up on the selector when shifting, but then i should have a problem with 5th, wich i dont. it shifts fine out of the car, except there is no reverse http://rely.net/~htimages/smile/emsmilep.gif the reverse gears look worn and kinda grinded around the contact edges (because when you try to put them into gear, they grind) but they arent totally chewed up and destroyed. i would replace the transmission if i had 700$ to throw away. but i dont. i need to sell this car for as much as possible because i need to buy a good grand cherokee. oh, and yes the bolt is in place http://rely.net/~htimages/smile/emwink.gif [Modified by KAMiN, 12:36 PM 11/25/2002] |
