Bad injector causing o2sensor to go bad?

I recently purchased a brand new o2sensor from acura for a 1994integra gsr.

Okay my question is could a bad injector cause the o2 sensor to fail or cause the CEL and throw a code #1 at certain times? I dont want to put this sensor in when the one that is on right now if it isnt even bad.

SYMPTOMS: Rough idle, Really rough idle when engine is cold, Bad gas mileage, Black Spark plug piston #1, CEL code #1(o2 Sensor), Black smoke at WOT, smelly at idle, Car sputters sometimes at WOT.

I think injector #1 could be stuck open

Based on the symptoms you have described, that seems like the most likely answer. Try moving just the injector to another cylinder and see if the problem follows it. If it does, then you know it's the injector, if not, then at least you know it's not the injector. If it is the injector, after moving it, go ahead and get a new one (or new set) and some new plugs, and run a tank of premium with a good bit of octane boost to clean the engine out.

Would a bad injector cause it to idle really low when its cold?.....cause it used to go to 1100-1200 now it idles at like 700-800 whether it is cold or warm.

Hmmm. . .there are a number of problems that could cause that. After you have moved the injector to see if it is in fact the problem and, if it is, replaced the injector(s), if you still have a problem, take it to someone who can electronically diagnose the vehicle. It will save you a lot of time in the long run.

Or you can do the old shade-tree mechanic test and take a really long screw driver and place the tip to the base of the injector wile the engine is running and put one ear to the end of the handle and listen for a ticking sound, compare with the other injectors. this wont really tell you anything if its working but its not flowing properly. another thing, tryed replacing plugs and/or wires?,

Hope this can help you,

Re: Bad injector causing o2sensor to go bad? (ekhybrd)

A bad injector will not cause a o2 senor to go bad. However, a rich or lean mixture will set a code one. Remember, that an o2 sensor monitors down stream condition modify fuel. Since that one cylinder that seems to have the rich condition problem. I would remember following dc231 suggestion.

Also, a valve clearance that is too tight, exhaust valves specially, will cause a rich condition and rough idle.

but you can test the o2 sensor operation. You will need a digital voltmeter to did it.

I Agree with you Hondadna, I didnt think a bad injector would cause an O2 sensor to go bad,

im having the exact same problem with my b16a2...i bumped my timing up then 4 days later i get a code from the o2 sensor...should i just lower my timing back, then it will go away, or will i ahve to purchase a new sensor?
