Default 2012 Civic Key fob issue: drains battery in 4-6 weeks. New key needed?

Hi guys, I posted this in the model specific Civic forum but didn't get any responses so I thought I would repost it here as well.

I have a recurring issue with my wife's 2012 Civic key fob that is driving me crazy. The keyless entry fob drains the battery after 4-6 weeks consistently. I thought it was a bad batch of batteries (got a 5 pack on Amazon) but a battery from Lowe's did the exact same thing. Anyone have any experience with this issue? Any possible fix other than getting a new key from the dealer for $200?

Has to be a bad key. They are not $200

Dealership quoted $185 last time. Is there some sort of official Honda guidance to avoid overcharging like this?

No... Not like pricing vehicles. Welcome to dealership life

I bought my key for my '12 SI from Amazon for $45

Majestic Honda has em for $42(Checked after I ordered it, as Amazon is my go to for everything)

In order to get it cutyou need your key code. The code can be found on the side of the lock cylinder for the trunk release(driver side on the floor)

Or you have to personally go to the dealership and request your key code.

Once you have the code a locksmith (usually a mobile one) can take care of the rest. Cost me $75 for cut and program.

***Its much cheaper to go to a locksmith rather than call one out to you.***
