Re: 1st gear keeps on shooting back out (tinkerbell)
Mista Bone, I've been shopping for my 1-2 shift fork and 3rd gear synchro, but I don't know what category to look under for the synchro (mainshaft, countershaft, or what?--Don't list synchro for where I'm looking at). Can u check out this sight " http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.net " and possibly point out which part do I need for that grinding in 3rd gear--I think I found the shift fork already. My tranny is a 94-97 gsr. Thanks. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: 1st gear keeps on shooting back out (3rdGteg)
I broke a shift lever in my tranny. So I pulled it out of the car. took the trans. apart. It wasn't a piece of cake but, nothing that can't be done. while it was apart I replaced all the bearings and seals added lsd and replaced the shifing devices this cost me about 1,000 dollars and took me a few months you can do this with basic tools and press to change the bearings i orderd the parts from my local acura dealership if you call them they will send you an exploded view of the tranny good luck

Re: 1st gear keeps on shooting back out (jl2teg)
I also replaced the scyncro's they are very costly It was a great learning experince but cheeper to buy a used tranny.

Re: 1st gear keeps on shooting back out (3rdGteg)
Acura only sells the gearsets, they do not sell individual synchros. In order to do both shafts, you need to spend a total of about $800 for the three different sets in a b series transmission.
I had the same problem with the popping out of first, and it was not the fork which goes around the gear changer on the shaft, but the little fork mechanism that the shifter moves to control all the forks. (If you look at the Helms, you will see what I am talking about). It is one of the first things that the Helms tells you to inspect for wear. |
Re: 1st gear keeps on shooting back out (JHill)
Thanks for the replies; now I'm still debating upon spending my money on rebuilding this tranny or try and buy another used one (which I'm very concerned about since I got ripped off with this p.o.s.).

Re: 1st gear keeps on shooting back out (3rdGteg)
have u had the motor for awhile..........or just did a swap? cuz if the fluid is almost gone it will pop out of gear also but i think its like 3 and up.........i was told my car had fluid and being dumb enough i drove forever and it would pop out constantly on the freeway....... but i dont know about first gear...... probably what they said

Re: 1st gear keeps on shooting back out (b18c1civic95)
Well now, I'm even having more and more problems with this stupid tranny. Now sometimes it don't fully engage into first and second; it just grinds and grinds lightly and won't move when I press on the gas pedal--just a grinding noise.
And EVERY single time it's in 5th gear now, it makes this high pitch whining noise which gets louder as the speed gets higher. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsad.gif http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emhammer.gif http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthdown.gif |
