Wheel shakes a lot at highway speeds. NOT a wheel balance/warped rotor issue.
The wheels/tires have been balanced twice. The semi warped rotors have been replaced. What else could be causing my steering wheel to shake so much when traveling faster than 40 mph? The whole car vibrates.
Could using the wrong lugnuts be the culprit? I'm using the ones I used for my GT3's for the steelies I have on now.
Alignment was also done recently too.
Any input would be appreciated.

steering rack end bushing for sure will cause vibration during braking at high speeds. it doesnt have to be a rotor "warpage" issue, but will cause rotors to go warped quickly.
do you have a swap?

its not under braking. Its just whenever I'm traveling over 40mph. The wheel used to shake bad under braking, but I changed the rotors/pads and that has since stopped.
no swap, its a 97 GSR

ah, definatley not a reb issue then, since you dont have one.
i thought i was reading this in the crx forum... heh.
well, i have a few more guesses, but thats all they are with the info youve provided. axles is one of them tho.

steelies are ball seat type and most aftermarket wheels are cone seat. Could also be your wheel bearings or a bad hub, and any other suspension bushings up front also the ball joints upper and lower. Tie rods have been mentioned, also think of the inner ones.

alright i'll check on the axles and tie rods. the lower balljoints were recently replaced, and the uppers were replaced with omni upper a-arms.

Re: (Oldskool teggy)
what size tires do you have? Whats the tread at? jack up the car and spin each tire placing your hand on the tire. It might be separated.
Are you feeling a shake in the steering wheel or in the seat of your pants?

I asked my mechanic, he also said axles. I'll have the car up in the air in the next week or so.
the tires and wheels are both brand new. the wheels are steelies from tire rack and the tires are dunlop winter tires.
pretty much the whole car starts to shake at any speed over 50 mph. its more noticable in the steering wheel though.

Re: (DoctorGSR)
Did you recently put new wheels on? I have seen people that didnt use hub rings get a shake like that. Jack up your car and try and feel for play when you move the tire side to side and up and down.

Re: (BLUE EH3)
Just for info, in case anyone is searching out this issue; non hub-centric rims or mismatched lugnuts can cause wheel vibration.
I have VW rims for my snows, and their hub is larger than my civics. If I don't center the lugs properly to get the wheel centered on the hub properly, I get vibration. Hub centric rings would fix the problem as well.
Using the proper lugs for the rim will center the rim as well. Stock wheels use a 'ball' seat, and aftermarkets use a 'cone' type seat. Using the wrong lugs on the wrong wheel will cause stress points on both the wheel and lug nut, and possibly not seat the wheel properly on the hub.
