What shocks to get for my EF/Tokico or kyb??? Thanks

I am debating on tokico hp's or kyb gr2's? Which ones are ok for my coilovers? Roads are pretty rough in my area. Ordering today prob so need some opinions and experiences with em.

Out of the two (gun to my head to say it) the HP.

I wouldn't ever even consider a Keep Ya Bouncing product.

Check shock dynos and match to the rate of your coil overs.

Personally I'm a big fan of Konis dampers. If they are a touch pricy the Tokico whites are not a bad shock for most.

blues are a waste of money. plenty ppl have found them simply not up to task.

illuminas have been great quality shocks. very reliable. best value.

i just cannot afford or think of spending 400 bucks on shocks. I am looking for a shock that will last a while. I dont have a swap or haul the back roads just for simple driving. But yet trustworthy.

Re: What shocks to get for my EF/Tokico or kyb??? Thanks

then dont bother spending $270. its a waste.

performance aint cheap.

Re: What shocks to get for my EF/Tokico or kyb??? Thanks

Tyson is 452% correct.

If you are riding on blown shocks and are tight of money put your oem springs on and get some OEM shocks or some oem styled bilstiens for a bit more.

Hondas have it cheap, on my z28 I spent over 1500 on Koni DAs dampers alone :S.

Look at it this way spend 270 on some junk and end up breaking things unhappy and needing to spend more down the line or just cough up now or leave her stock. Not trying to be mean just telling it how it is.

So skunk 2 would work out ok???... I had kyb agx and they were amazing for a year and a half on my hatch.

I have some decent tein coilovers on it and it has stock shocks and it rides rough on the bumps bad.

Re: What shocks to get for my EF/Tokico or kyb??? Thanks

If you go low, you need a good shock, period. If you want a slight drop, knock yourself out with the skunk2 pieces. If you go lower, Illuminas or Koni

Tyson is actually 463.27% correct.
I have GR2's on my hatch along w adjustable coilovers on my hatch they ride just fine..but then again i also have full polyurethane bushings all around :? one thing is for sure dont ever ever put aftermarket coilovers onto stock struts! it will ride like sheat. you really cant expect either one kyb or tokico to last long though ive heard tokicos go out faster then ive heard gr2's go out faster either way. you should try to find something better than those maybe kyb agx heard those are good and last

Are they adjustable?

If you're cheap, you can pick up some Tokico Blues and raise your car a couple inches.

If you're going to stay at that current height or go lower, you should invest in some quality shocks. I'll put in another vote for Tokico Illuminas, I absolutely loved them on my EF. I've had Koni Yellows on a couple of EF's (including my current CRX) and they are excellent as well.

Suspension is really not an area to cheap out on. You are going to be dealing with that suspension every single second you're with your car. It determines how it looks (stance), but more importantly it determines how the car rides and handles. Coming from someone who has rolled on everything from stock shocks with cut springs to Ground Control/Koni Yellows to GAB coilovers, my biggest piece of advice is DO NOT skimp on suspension!

yeah koni yellows are a grand. I have a kid and no job full time student I am thinking of gettin skunk 2 sport my cousin has had em on his da with a 3 inch drop for 2 and a half years as daily. I think Ima go that route.

Re: What shocks to get for my EF/Tokico or kyb??? Thanks

Yeah they are adjustable coils by the way. By the way my car is slammed 3 inches which I do not like it that low. I just need to have new shocks so my baby doesnt have to feel every little bump in the road. I had kyb agx on my hatch, They worked wonderful for years. But this civic came with stock shocks and the coilovers.

Also anyone got any tips on how to change a rear motor mount without it being a headache. I did one on my hatch and it was a bitch. Go from under or above? which is easier and what tools do I need.

If you have a kid and no job, why are you trying to buy aftermarket parts? Get your priorities straight and put some stock shit on there and take care of your kid. Modding should be the last thing on your mind.

I have been saving and tax's came in buddy all of my priorities are in perfect line thanks. But I only simply was asking which shocks are good for the money and what would last a while within my price range of 300 dollars.

Re: What shocks to get for my EF/Tokico or kyb??? Thanks

skunks are fine. and within your budget. Tokico HPs are shit if you're looking for "performance." Don't go too low even on the Skunks if you want comfort out of them.

todubbled1 04-03-2010 02:31 PM

Re: What shocks to get for my EF/Tokico or kyb??? Thanks

Ok gotcha I'm gonna order some skunks. I know there products are good.

Ass$nyper 04-03-2010 03:08 PM

Re: What shocks to get for my EF/Tokico or kyb??? Thanks

Skunk 2 is a OEM style replacement like 13% tighter if I remember right, not what you want.

Ugh the government's kid tax refund going into sup par honda parts. America f yea!

As said before do it with some whites at least.

koni str.t is the best $300/set shock i know of at the moment. also the only low cost shock with a lifetime warranty. plenty on ebay for $299 shipped in most apps. by far a better shock than the sub oem tokico hp and gr2's. i'm really not kidding, a stock gsr shock has more rebound than the hp's

Re: What shocks to get for my EF/Tokico or kyb??? Thanks

Koni yellows are NOT a grand. They are less than $500 now that they are on sale. I just got my set for $460 shipped. Everyone is giving you advice but you don't want to listen. So go ahead and buy those pos blues or gr2's. When they blow in a couple of months, don't come back in here complaining because we are trying to tell you to buy quality parts now. I used to have AGX's and I hated them. I now have Koni's and they are worth every penny and then some.
