Does anyone make CNC aluminum strut tophats for DC2/EG?
Anyone know of a company that makes replacement DC2 strut top hats, that are CNC'd aluminum, but stock height and not extended?
I just got picked up by team KW and their coilovers utilize the factory oem honda tophats, however I do not have mine any more and would prefer a nicer aluminum version over the stamped steel ones that Honda makes. I have a feeling I may have to use oem ones, however if a CNC version is available I would rather use those.
I know about the Ground control units, as well as the unlabled versions, but I have no use for the extended tophats as the KW's were designed to use factory height ones.

Re: Does anyone make CNC aluminum strut tophats for DC2/EG?
I did a decent search through a few sources and on the net and came up with nothing before posting. Kind of a last resort type of deal to see if someone knew.
I currently have Omnipower coilovers on the car right now that the KW's will be replacing, I am most likely going to test fit one of the omni alum hats and see if it sits like factory with the diamter of the spring and also that the rod matches the diameter of the sleeve etc. If they do fit just like factory ones, id purchase a new set of 4...however I am doubtful that Omnipower is still operational since I haven't heard a peep about them in a while. Hopefully I am not SOL for an aluminum solution that can be bought off the shelf. If I am however I should be able to have one of a handful of my friends who are autocad guru's design me some.
The design shouldn't be too bad, and I believe the studs are the same as standard 12x1.5 wheel studs, just have to compensate for the knurl end so they fit in and don't stick out past the hat.
Sometimes I am too picky :p

I spent a long time looking for these a while back. I saved a search on ebay and found a set used after almost a year. I'm not certain what brand I have I think they were included on a coilover set that someone separated for some odd reason.
When I was looking I found a few other options:
1. Cusco makes them off the shelf but they are pricey:
http://www.corsportusa.com/store/cat...oducts_id=3106
2. There used to be a seller on ebay that sold a "MOOKEEH" brand universal pillowball mount. It was essentially just a bearing mounted in a round aluminum disc. If I remember correctly you had to source your own studs and drill holes for them on your own. I can't seem to find these anymore but other mookeeh mounts are on ebay (search under title and description for "mookeeh pillow ball")
3. Rear 240sx might be the same size. Maybe also some of the 300zx and skyline as well.
4. Science Of Speed sells a set for the S2000. I'm 99% sure these would fit 88-00 Hondas. But these are meant for moton/jrz which have a larger shaft. Many times the bearings use inserts to hold the shock, if this is the case they might be able to sell you a set made for a smaller diameter shock shaft. Or you could just buy a solid sleeve bushing.
If anyone does any homework on these please post up here! I am definitely interested to know if 240sx or S2000 mounts are the same size.

I just did a quick read on what you are trying to do so if I have this correct you are about to install KW coilovers which require you to reuse the factory top hat.
If my memory serves me correctly it should bolt up just fine. I've worked on those dampers a few times. So you can remove the top hats from them, and swap them over to the KW no problem. I am almost positive it should fit with no modification.
If it does not work for whatever reason we can make a machined top hat to fit for you. We do beautiful work, and can easily provide a cnc top mount for you. Good luck!

You can PM me if you want a price. It will be no problem for us to make. The top hats will include everything you need including a new rubber isolator for your 2.5ID, and 60mmID springs.
This isn't something that is requested by us often, but I am down to help if anyone needs them. They are clear anodized standard, but we can anodize them any color you want for the most part.

Found this on another forum. Basically they are just welding a spherical bearing to a cut up stock tophat.

Re: Does anyone make CNC aluminum strut tophats for DC2/EG?
Just checked this thread as I ran out of solutions, and what do you know, many more available now
Andy, pming you about a quote to see what would be more feasible to do. Either have you machine a set, or tig my own using a donor set of factory tophats.
I do not have the coilovers in hand yet to take any measurements as they are probably ~a couple weeks to 1 month out until they are built/shipped, but can provide the details on sizing once they are here.
Going to tally up the cost of making my own as well so I have a comparison.
I hope this thread helps everyone else looking for something that is aimed toward the track guys who want their tophats to have a nice fit and finish. The Stock honda tophats are a good solution, however I need something to match the theme I have going on in the engine bay so it looks complete.
I also did not want to use extended ones because KW's may work with them, but their original intentions are to work with a STOCK sized tophat. My ride height is functional and wouldn't need taller tophats anyways. I also want them to perform as they intended, amazing
Cannot wait to get the KW's in, I am amped beyond belief to run their Variant 3's.

Re: Does anyone make CNC aluminum strut tophats for DC2/EG?
Just trying to help! We have extended top hats as well for those who need them.
We should be finished with his top hats by the end of the week and have them shipped out early next week! Thanks for giving us the opportunity to help out with your project!!Anyone that needs machined aluminum top hats to replace your OEM factory top hats can pm us. This will bolt onto setups that reuse the factory OEM top hats like the progress, kw, and GC/Koni coilovers to name a few. In this case he has a KW setup.

I can't wait. I will have pictures for you guys once they are here.
Glad I could assist in this "pilot" of getting these made. :D
I especially cannot wait to take some test runs with the new KW V3's on the car with some well machined tophats to boot!
