Default Re: OFFICIAL: Shock Dynos (azian21485)

the bottom two graph's are mine.

There was some confusion when i had them dyno'd the person running it thought that the settings i had them at were somthing i had been running, and that lead to me needing to change the labeling.

I don't know what type of dyno, the place i went to uses, i will try and figure it out. (the layout looks the same from the top one ot mine but ill ask). I do know that my koni's from side to side were pretty darn right on close.

Also these koni's were done at the Runoff's, for another HT user who was planing on using them on his AutoX GSR or LS integra. The car was wrecked, befor the koni's were ever put on, and i bought them from him. (so the dampers were valved at the 05 runoff's).

I didn't even know they made those. I think they are the newer versions but I was referring to these...https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1470253...that are different.

Well I'd put money on the damping characteristics being the same, as well as the range of adjustment

something is funky with the way they had there dyno set up. its showing the forces wrong, it should be flipped. (adjustablity of koni's is in the positive force, not negative)

Most of that is simply the way the dyno data is set up to print out so you can flip the graphs around in several different ways to fit your preference or what you are used to looking at. After being used to read it printed one way, sometimes it takes a moment to straighten out if it is printed another way.

We had this Miata thread pointed out to us by several people but decided not to participate as there is a great mix of correct and incorrect info and interpretation. These discussions seem to gain a life of their own and can head off in many different ways often with limited bearing on how things really are. One similar valving comparison thread went 40+ pages on VW Vortex and we followed it mostly for the laughs of how far from reality it went. The problem is that once you step in, it is very hard to get out and there are enough self proclaimed experts with any number of agendas or even the best intentions that get led astray that it is easier to not get started. As a manufacturer, it is even harder because people also project that what you might say is sales pitch, spin or damage control. That is one reason why I rarely post in this thread as well, it is simply better for me not to.

If I may, I would suggest that one look at the any data you like and be careful to make sure about the context it is used in and don't necessarily take as gospel what some people say that it reflects or shows. Be even more aware that assumptions from that reading may not necessarily be correct either and an assumption based on a generality with a little off kilter frame of reference and maybe some dead wrong information and you can be operating way off in left field without ever knowing it. Take in what you like and see how it fits your model of what you understand and what your experience proves out to you as well. If it works, keep going but be ready to step back a bit if something seems off. In short, don't beleive everything you read and back it up with what works for you and fits with your own experience. Good luck!

they are Relativly new so i don't think so. You might want to contact them and see if they can provide you with one.

If they want to have a set done, i can provide the service, or "vtecvoodoo" can, or RJ. has offered to pay for shipping to have them done by CRX LEE at Koni.

Maybe i could see if i could get a dyno plot of one of our jrz 4 way adjustable shocks...They are really inpressive, We also rebuild them at our shop, Which i was told is a black art of suspension Not alot of people know how to rebuild them...

Default Koni Question

Great thread here. I have a Koni question. Called their tech line and did not get a definitive answer. Have sent an email to Lee, but have not heard back yet.

BTW, I do not have a Honda, so sorry for invading here, but I need an answer and this seems like a good group here. If this is the wrong place to put this query, I will delete/move it.

Here we go:
When setting the rebound damping on your shocks what would you make of a shock pair in which the shocks have vastly different extension times at the same setting. I just got a replacement set from Koni after my others went bad, and here's what I observed: Set full hard on rebound, shock #1 took 48 seconds to extend while shock #2 took 26. Set 1/4 turn off full-hard, it was 36 and 22 seconds. To get #1 to 22 seconds, I had to set it at 1-1/4 turns vesus 1/4. Hmmm...

This seems real odd, but the call-in Koni tech did not say anything specific. Of course, a dyno would help. Any place in either the Contra Costa County or the Fremont/San Jose CA area?

I could send them back to Koni for a check, but I'm running out of time getting ready for an event. What would you do?

BTW, this was the rear shocks. The fronts did not exhibit this problem.

TIA,

Bill
