El Mirage Run - October 16 2010
Hey everyone; this is kind of a San Diego based event, but we met a few L.A. heads at our last run back in May so I figured I'd post here to keep you all in the loop.
El Mirage is a dry lake bed west of Victorville. Before you cringe at the thought of taking your car off-roading, let me say that the surface is very flat and can be best described as normal asphalt with a thin layer of sand on top. Just enough to make things interesting =]. At the same time, it not completely flat and some areas have a few bumps so if you're hella-dumped, hella-flush or whatever I would suggest raising your car. Also, just to get it out of the way, you car WILL get very dirty inside and out so expect some intimate time at your local car wash afterward. It's great for cars of all types (Rwd/Fwd/Awd) and there's something for everybody to do.
Timscribbles.com hosts the event twice a year (spring/fall) and this will be our last run until May 2011. Drag racing, drifting, slalom, cruising, top speed runs...you can pretty much do whatever you please as long as you always consider safety. No cops or speed limits, just park rangers cruising once in a while. I have been the past few times in my '93 Civic and it's a blast.
$15.00 to enter! Permit lasts from sunrise-sunset. They can be purchased online in advance HERE, or you can purchase at the entrance. I can pretty much guarantee it will be worth every penny, so don't worry about it.
There will be a caravan to the lake that will depart San Diego somewhere around 7am. If you're in that area, please visit the official San Diego thread here to get the exact details on departure time and location. They will be disclosed as the event nears. For all that are north of SD, you are welcome to meet up with us at the lake bed at any time or form your own caravan if you want.
I want to emphasize SAFETY to everyone who is or plans on going. Though it is an open environment and there are no real restrictions, please consider other participants around you, and the fact that you are sharing the park with many other OHVs, bikes, buggies etc. that are not part of our group. The absolute last thing we want is somebody getting hurt out there or somebody having to leave with a wrecked vehicle. Not only will your awareness allow everyone to go home safe, it will keep a positive reputation with the rangers - who can only invite us back in the future!
*** VIDEO EQUIPMENT ***: We are looking to get as much video coverage as we can. If anybody has any sort of film equipment, such as pro or HD-quality camcorders, interior or exterior mounts, rigs or whatever - please send me a PM! Thank you!

Same I'm taking my mr2 also. Isn't el mirage only for speed traps? Can't really drift there because it will ruin the lake bed and rangers will not allow it.

Just a reminder to everyone who is going, we need SUPPLIES:

2-way Radios
If you can bring any of this stuff, please post up and let me know. We are still looking for video equipment as well.

Bump again for THIS saturday. If you're in the SD area, we're starting a caravan off the 15. You can plug the address into google maps.
14371 Penasquitos Dr
San Diego, CA 92129-1601
We should be departing SD around 7am promptly and hope to arrive at El Mirage somewhere around 9am.
If you're coming from elsewhere, you can arrive at any time but you might have trouble finding us on the lake. I can say that in the past we have always had better luck on the north end. Less people and very flat. If all else fails, look for the dust clouds...
Any questions...PM me...hope to see everyone there
