Default J-series CKP Sensors

I am doing some research on the J-series engines and I’m trying to gain a deeper understanding of the electronics. For the sake of easier writing, I’ll start by defining the first two generations of J-series engines.

Gen 1 refers to:

1997-2003 Acura CL

2001-2002 Acura MDX

1999-2003 Acura TL

1998-2002 Honda Accord

1999-2004 Honda Odyssey

2003-2004 Honda Pilot

Gen 2 refers to:

2003-2009 Acura MDX

2005-2010 Acura RL

2004-2008 Acura TL

2003-2007 Honda Accord

2005-2010 Honda Odyssey

2005-2008 Honda Pilot

2006-2008 Honda Ridgeline

The part numbers for gen 1 and gen 2 ckp sensors are 37501P8AA01, and 37500RCAA01 respectively.

Now with that out of the way, can anyone confirm that the gen 1 engines use a variable reluctance sensor? I believe they do because there are only 2 wires going to the sensor. I’m also like 90% sure the gen 2 engines use 2 different hall effect sensors in the same housing because there are 6 wires on the connector. The ECUs also have corresponding CKPA and CKPB inputs. Can anyone offer any theories as to why Honda would use 2 CKP sensors on the gen 2 motors. The manual variant of the J32A2 gen 1 motor also used 2 CKP sensors, however it was just an additional sensor reading the flywheel rather than 2 sensors reading the crank pulley.
