Default Time for new vehicle... Need cars comparable to 2008 Mustang GT

Hey guys I've built my turbocharged 2000 Honda Civic SI up but it's time I change things up. After lots of research in the mustang world im about to purchase a 2008 Mustang GT. the reasons I like this car a lot is because it's relatively fast stock, shape of car looks good, and I can get a decent one for 17k. My question is what other cars could you guys come up with that would compare to these standards? A couple obvious ones jump at me but don't sound too appealing are 350 and Pontiac GTO. I have NO interest in moddifing this next car.

What other vehicles come to mind in this 2008 Mustang GT car class?

gto puts down more power but reliability is awful with them and they look like a normal pontiac. If I wanted a fast sleeper that needs to be fixed every weekend then I'd keep my 320 whp civic.

what parts of the car have you heard were unreliable??? just curious???

as to the Mustang. you're looking at a 3v 4.6 that will struggle to hit 28mpg highway and 20mpg city, auto or manual. fastest GLORY pass stock was a 13.3 @ 103mph, so really not that quick . if you actually ever decide to do mods to it, you'll have to get a tune for every little thing, even a CAI, or else the car won't be happy. also, it's still a SRA car, which WILL get nervous over rough road.

other cars to possibly consider:
LS1 F-body ('98-'02) - slightly faster stock, little better fuel mileage, for $17k you can find a LOW mileage one.
GTO (as you said) - '04 LS1, '05-'06 LS2. solid engines that makes very good power, manual trans is basically the same as in the C5 Z06, only real weak point is the axles breaking from wheel hop on hard launches. also, it's not you typical Pontiac. in fact, barely any of it is, it's a rebadged Holden Monaro.
350Z - 3.5L v6 that gets 17mpg in town and 25mpg highway, in a car that handles awesome but otherwise likes to kick the crap out of you daily.

Good post thanks for info!

So as I was building my civic I had few friends / acquaintances that owned the 5.7 gtos. They always made great power but even with the few mods that were installed I think I heard of them sitting in the garage being fixed then being out on the weekends then not? Now at this point it's whos word vs whos word but they've just never appealed to me as much as the newer mustangs.

I'd love to hear more vehicles that would be good substitutions.

i'd add a g35 or an e46 M3's. The m3's can be had for a decent price nowadays,

not exactly comparable but you also have sti and evo's around that price range

08 GT's really arent that much faster then a G35.
With a few basics mods the G is faster.

Whoever told you the GTO is "unreliable" is a ****** moron.

The 5.7 and 6.0 GTOs are not pontiacs...they are Holden Manaros from Australia.....and the ls1/ls2 and t56 is ****** bulletproof....GTO >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> FORD RUSTANG. And this is from a former ford owner and friend of mustang owners/mostly past owners.

A decently low mileage 03-04 Cobra can be had for that price, supercharged from factory factory short throw shifter, etc

+1 on the E46 M3. As long as you can afford the maintenance, they're the best bang for the buck in my opinion.

Are you married with kids?

True story. A friend got married with a Mustang GT. Sold the car a few years later. No one made him do it. It fits a car seat fine. It just got old after a while trying to put JR in and out.

I suggest a Dodge Charger RT.

03-04 cobra
GTO with man trans
04-06 sti
EVO
F-Body (WS6 trans-am, 2000-02 'maro z28)
350z
g35(kind of pointless with all those others there)
E36 M3
E46 M3

honestly, i live in a house with one gt500kr,and a normal '11 gt500. i drive the 2011 often. the s197 mustang is a good car. not fast by any means, handles like a pregnant cow, and looks kind of soft to me, along with that impotent slug of an engine(250-260 whp from a 4.6L v8, you have got be kidding me , are we back in 1965?) if you are dead set on the 08 gt, BUY IT. but not at 17K. buy it for 12-15 k and use the rest left over for somesort of forced induction or cammed setup(mild at that) and asthetics. thats the only way the car would be worth wild. good call by 1990camaroRS. they are bitchy in basic mod sense. want a stang? 03-04 cobra is my favorite mustang to modify/look at/hear. car is quick from factory, and has what feels to be infitine power potential. oh and independant rear suspension......independant.......
