Default AWD CRX donor, B20 or K24a1 CRV?

I can either get the b20 awd swap done for $3k or k24a1 from a crv for $5k. Now I already have the swap parts for B series and new swap parts for the K are included in the price, maybe even Kpro. The b20 crv rear diff etc fit better and are stronger than the K stuff but not by much from what I'm told. I guess the K drivetrain has a viscous coupler built in the diff that should be modified or something.

Anyway, with the stock b20 I wouldn't push it past 300whp. Highest I've heard with the k24a1 was 480whp but I don't have much info on the k24a1 so not sure what's generally considered a safe limit. I'm leaning B because I could put that extra 2k towards a sleeved GSR or something along those lines and have the B crv diff. On the flip side, much easier to find manual K awd transmissions as well as parts/engines etc. I will be abusing this setup, hard launches especially. Haven't checked if there's upgrades for the awd B trans to hold more power, straight cut gears or sequential box etc. Assuming there are for the awd K trans and they'll cost much more than the B. Honestly making the power with either is possible, it's the trans and drivetrain I'm most worried about.

Probably sounds stupid in a sub 2k lb car but long term I'd like to see 600-800whp, reasonable for a sleeved and forged engine? For now with stock internals I'd want 300whp with the B and 400whp with the K. So what do you guys think? TIA!

If going through the trouble already, might as well go K. This is my reasoning.

- B20 block would be severely limited, unless you sleeve it.
- The B series transfer case is also a weak link, unless you spring for a billet one.
- I do not think the K series diff is any weaker than the B.
- B trans has the super short gearing issue.
- Plenty of people are pushing 1000hp on the AWD K setup, so it is already proven.

I would go k series for higher hp goals. I would go b series for simplicity sake. I like both platforms but the ceiling on the b series is much lower in my opinion.

Thanks guys, I'm just going to go b20v for now. Cheap and fun. AWD is catching on but still very early. New stuff popping up all the time and with hasport working on an awd crx setup I think it's best to wait. Had no idea the K stuff was proven, from searching around yesterday all I could find was that the EF wagon diff was strongest, but I'm glad the K stuff holds up since they're everywhere.
