Water pump 2001 Honda Accord EX V6
Hi. I have a question about the water pump on my 2001 Honda Accord EX with 3.0 V6. The timing belts were changed only 20000 miles ago and the water pump has gone out. Can that water pump be changed without having to change the timing belts? I understand that one of the belts at least will have to be removed, but I am not sure if that is a good idea or not. Please give me some advice. Thank you!

As far as I am aware the timing belt will have to be removed to get to the water pump. I suppose replacing the belt depends on its condition. Wait for others more experienced to chime in before you go hog wild.

I would replace the belt if I were you. If you have been staggering such heavy maintenance, it might be better to get everything on the same timetable so that when you replace the belts, you do the pump, pullies, and seals, too--the whole kit. Save labor charges that way. On my rotation, I also do the drive belts at the same time. Those are another laborious job that is easy when everything is torn apart to work on the timing belt. Good luck.
