Hello. I have an 1997 Honda Civic DX and it keeps overheating. After about 30 minutes of driving, the temperature gauge begins to rise above the middle mark. I have even plugged in a scanner to the car and the temperature reading appears to line up. The car had a blown head gasket when I bought it and I have just finished replacing everything that you would replace along with fixing the blown head gasket.
- Water pump
- new timing belt
- Had the head milled to spec
- new thermostat
- new temperature sensor
- new radiator
- have bled coolant after refilling.

Do your cooling fan(s) engage at operating temp and blow in the right direction? Scale of 1-10, how SURE are you that there is no air in the system?

I'm pretty certain that the fans are blowing in the correct direction and that they are engaging. I am at a 9 for the question about no air in the system. There should be none. I have bled it repeatedly and also held the car at about 2500rpm for 3 minutes with the cap off to bleed it even better.

Where I live, we are at a slight incline. I also had jack stands under the front at their highest setting. Yes.

Park facing uphill, allow it to cool off completely, then remove the radiator cap and check if it is staying full. The radiator should be completely full to the top.

I have done all of this already. I suspect that it is a different issue as I have bled the system many times over the last two days with no change in result.

When you bled the coolant, did bubbles stop appearing eventually? Is your overflow tank between the min and max lines? I replaced the head gasket in my CRX years ago, only to have it blow again a few months down the line. Turns out I didn't check the block for flatness and had a small raised area on the block that caused it to blow again.

What temperature does the scan tool report before you shut the engine off?

I sense some doubt there. IIRC, the fan should engage around 200 F. Is that what you see?

The temp gauge has been reading in the 185-190 range. It doesn't go above 190 unless i'm driving

I'll check when I get the chance.
