Honda Accord 2002 4 cyl. p0170 p0172 p0420 after valve adjustment
Hi everyone,
I hope you will be able to help me with this problem. I feel that my Honda is constantly giving me codes.
I originally had p1399, p0300, p0301, p0302, p0303, and p0304
1. I first changed the the plugs, wires and distributor. This did not fix the codes.
2. After some research in this forum I decided to get a valve adjustment. I took it to a local private Honda shop to have it done. After about 20 miles or so after the adjustment the cell illuminated again.
3. The new codes were now p0170, p0172 and p0420. Any ideas about what might be causing this?

Ignore P0420, that is caused by P0170/P0172.
P0170 Fuel system too lean
P0172 Fuel system too rich
Check the fuel pressure is within spec and consistent.
If too high check your fuel regulator, fuel return line for blockage/restriction.
If too low, check the voltage to the fuel pump(battery voltage), fuel pump, fuel feed line, filter, and the regulator.
If these check out fine then check your O2 sensor. If the sensor stays below .3V or above .6V then it is probably lazy and will need to be replaced.
Check for exhaust leaks as well.
If the above checks out, verify the EVAP canister purge valve holds vacuum.
If it does not, replace.
