You've put a timing light on it? 'Cause bad timing can make it sound like a Diesel... Just trying to eliminate all the easiest options before jumping to expensive solutions.

No way. Tired of F'ing around with 20 year old used wire. I'm doing all new, terminals too. I may recycle some housings but only if they are absolutely minty. Terminals are cheap anyway.

To answer the question you had on the last thread you made that got deleted is yes it has happened before to others when there Alt, belt rips it can cause timing to slip. Hopefully now you will reset...

When the engine does not start, turn key to ON(II) position. Does the fuel pump prime? Does the CEL turn on for 2 seconds and then turn off?
