I know him (Erick) personally and he never struck me for what has been posted here a couple of times. Unfortunately he has proven that he doesn't deserve any trust.
I know two people that have been done wrong, one of them the original post about 7 months ago and another I race with him.
It troubles me that he keeps doing this type of activities, since his reputation goes back a long time.
Just talked to a drag racer from years ago and it looks like he was already doing this kind of things long ago.
I belive that even the law was involved last time so it wouldn't hurt if you investigate and complaint about it.

There used to be the day when all you needed to seal a deal with someone was a promise and a handshake. Now, you need a contract drawn up by an astute attorney who will make sure all of your best interests are explicitly detailed (so some other attorney hired by the other party involved in the disagreement would have a difficult time trying to find a loophole so that his client could get away with screwing you over). So, the time has come when just about every deal with an unknown person should be explicitly detailed in contract form.
