Windshield vs. Rock
At the last track event (this past weekend) - I was the lucky person who got two rocks in the windshield.
The result are two star-shaped chips ...which haven't spread ...yet.
My questions: (I have Allstate insurance)
(1) Will my insurance company cover this w/o raising my premium?
(2) Will I have to pay my comp. deductible -or- is this a free service?
(3) Is there a temporary solution so that the crack/chip does not start to "spiderweb"?
Thanks for your opinions/advice ...the S2000 is sad.

Re: Windshield vs. Rock (coquinn)
well, I know when I cracked my sunroof from a rock off the back of a truck, the insurance company came out and gave me a quote for fixing it which was slightly more than my deductible, I priced it on my own and found out that it could be done cheaper if I used a hometown guy
my insurance company uses one business to put in their glass repairs so it s kinda biased

Re: Windshield vs. Rock (coquinn)
When I talked with my insurance company, they offered to repair the windshield for free or I could replace it and pay my deductible. I choose to get it repaired and it turned out pretty well. The repair service applies a resin that sets the glass so the crack will not propagate. It still noticable but hard to find if you do not know it is there. No increase in premium either.

I've done both replacement (Civic Si) and repair (wife's TL-S) and never had any problems with increased rates. On the replacement just paid the deductable, and the repair was paid by State Farm.

Not sure which compnay it is. but my cousin gets windshields for free if they break. It was included in their premium and it wasn't really any extra money.
Its an incentive to stay with the company i guess......

It depends on the policy and your location.
Many policies will repair a crack for free (usually patch it with polyurethane or similar). Not a perfect solution, but stops the spread. Usually leaves a small blurry bit.
Most policies will require you to pay the deductible before covering a replacement. On most cars, this means you pay most of the amount. Last I checked, a '99 Civic windsheild was ~$400.
