Something that mostly racers with synchro-less transmissions do. When you downshift, you push in the clutch, put the car in neutral and blip the throttle so that the rpms on the input shaft match the speed of the output shaft. Then you puch the clutch back in and shift into the lower gear.

i'll take this one. double clutching is what it sounds like. depressing the clutch twice. i know i use it to do 3-2 downshifts. even though i heel-toe, it will grind. so i double clutch it and it goes in no problem.
example using 3-2 shift.
brake
push in clutch and shift to neutral
release clutch and rev using the side of my foot while still braking
push clutch in, shift to 2nd and release clutch.

sometimes i will blurp the throttle twice. once when i go to neutral and once before i release the clutch in 2nd.

hope that helped.

Just to clarify... because the two often get mixed up and intertwined...

The throttle "blip" or rev-matching is not really a part of the double-clutch. Sure, it's the way you're supposed to do it, but if you're going to start labeling things, techincally, I'd call that a separate "skill".

But yea,
depress the clutch,
put the car into neutral,
release the clutch,
depress the clutch,
put the car into gear,
release the clutch.

Not quite. I guess this depends on what gearbox you have, but any modern synchro-less tranny does not need to be double clutched. These are typically dog ring gearboxes. I run a Gerico, which is a clutch-optional tranny, you can use it, or not use it. I use the clutch only on downshifts, hee toe braking, although I have downshifted without the clutch and it feels no different. I never use the clutch for upshifts, just lift slightly and smash it in the next gear, it actually feels smoother without the clutch.
