Nt01 weird wearing?

1 Attachment(s)
It's my first time with these Nitto NT01 and I notice that only one of my tire (right front one) had wear a weird way... The track is known to be rough on the right front one but the weird wearing occur on the center of the sole...

Bad tire? Normal? Anyone ever had the same issue? Here's one pic...

The car is fresh out from aligment and was very stable... But I could feal a vrrrr coming out of the front tire when cornering hard... Nothing seams to rub in the fender... Clueless!

Tire pressure, wheel bearing?
A vrrrr sound/feel would make me look hard under there.
Ya also might wanna contact nitto and sent them a pic.

Re: Nt01 weird wearing?

I'm gonna do a rotation to see if it will occur on an other tire... This should eliminate many variables... But the car is fresh out of aligment and the wheel bearing have about 3hours of use... just change it before the new season... I went through the entire suspension this winter and change bushing that seems done... I even jack the suspension all the way up with clay at some critical spot where something could have rub/touch but everything is free of contact... I've been doing track for 7 years now and never had that kind of wear... espcially on only one tire...

Tire pressure check just before jumping on track and set at 28-29 cold...

Look how the wear dosent appear on one side of the tread... I can feel the vrrrr evn when driving it on the street at a slower pace when going to the track...

I'm gonna tried to contact Nitto too...

But if someone has other imput/bad experience feel free to post it!

I ran a set of 235/40/17 when I was doing tt and I noticed the same. Didn't worry about it and ran the tires to the cords.
What pressure you running and what car?

Re: Nt01 weird wearing?

looks like graining on the tire, which means it more than likely was just getting too hot/being over-driven or the track is just really abrasive. Summit Point in WV will do the same thing to a new set of R comps on the front left. rotate and continue driving.

edit: i've seen it only happen on part of the tire, not the whole thing also.
double edit: the VRR is probably just the tread pattern that you aren't used to. ever heard R888's into a braking zone?

Re: Nt01 weird wearing?

Car is 2250lbs integra use in Lapping, TA and AutoX... Never driven R888, I heard bad comment so I choose the Nitto for Lapping Tire since we can't get any Ra1 at a decent price here in Canada... I'm more use to Ra1 and Hoosier...

We have brand new tarmac here and I can feel the car jumping when tracking corners out instead of sliding... That new tarmac seems to have more grip than the old one... But I wasen't pushing that hard...

I just don't want the sole to peel out like it happen to me last year with a set of BF R1...True that I had abuse them a bit on an AutoX event at the start but still not a good feeling!

I did a rotation of the Nitto so I'll see what will happen next week!

BTW if you have similar cars weight, what pressure are you running cold and hot? Mine are 225/45/15 on 7'' wide for now...

Thanks for imputs guys.

Re: Nt01 weird wearing?

sorry, but only have experience with miatas on track. new tarmac is what is doing it.

Re: Nt01 weird wearing?

I'll get similar wear on my NT01s.I think you're on the right track to rotate another tire to that corner and see if it does it as well.
I'm starting at 28psi cold on these in a 2000ish lb car.
