Was that Dan Unkafer (sp?) out there with you guys in his yellow rotary thing?

If so, talk about closing speed - he came up on me out of NASCAR bend at VIR last month and I couldn't get my hand out of the window fast enough. He was way cool about it (didn't take the point before the esses) and zipped on by me after the esses.

Do you mean the guy in the yellow Smurf? They aren't super fast, run 1:25s at Summit Point. About the same as EP and ITS cars. It's not the speed that scares me, but their propensity to divebomb into my blind-spot in inappropriate places (turn 4, turn 8 at Summit Point).

It's a Ford 4 cylinder they have under the fiberglass, not a rotary. And I think the ones taht run with NASA are older models that still have the Renault engine (the Ford engine was added a few years ago).

Ah, gotcha.

Nah, Dan has one (looks similar in the far off shot) that is powered by a 13B rotary (almost positive on the motor and I think dry sump) and it looked like the two of us could pick it up and put it in the trailer. Lord knows he seemed to be crushing the twisties IMHO and when I asked him about it, he said he had to keep it "dialed back" because there was a brake issue that didn't give him full braking.

Nah, we all have to run 12A motors, so he wouldn't have been there. The name is familiar, just not sure from where. I thought you meant the Spec Racer Ford (Smurf).

Yeah, the engines and trannies are light. Both can be picked up by one person. Makes clutch changes, etc very easy - about 40 minutes for a clutch if you know what you're doing.
