So it's time we have a thread here for this...

Less than a year ago HPD announced their "grassroots racer program". With the hopes/desire to have it become better then the mazdaspeed program (that was/is my impression). It started out with a parts program but has quickly grown into something AWESOME.

Then they announce the TV deal http://nasaproracing.com/ (top story)


So who is in? Lets take advantage of the awesome contingency, and TV and get some huge fields!!

There are a couple of guys from the East Coast thinking about joining me, unfortunately I don't think John Reamer will be one of them unless he heals up quick. John broke his wrist in an accident at CMP a couple of weeks ago. It's a shame too, because he was really strong last year until he and Liam had contact. I'll be seeing most of these guys in a week at HyperFest and try to get a better idea of who is serious about making the trip.

I'll be there with the CRX in H2. Anyone looking to beat the curiously strong gold CRX and its international superstar driver need not hesitate to register.

Those HPD Logos, are they available in black or white? Is the windshield banner only die-cut vinyl or is there a required background color as well?
I'd ask on the driver's forum if I were eligible.

"Every Honda Challenge competitor that starts the Championship race will be eligible for a $500 cash award through the HPD contingency program at the NASA Championships regardless of class car count."

So as long as you START the championship race NO MATTER class or the car count, you get $500.



Now for 1st, 2nd, 3rd are only eligible for $2000, $1500, $1000 respectively if there are 10 or more starters. If there isn't they just get $500, like everyone else.

For any one who 'can't afford' this race, i'd REALLY look at it hard as i think you could afford it.

The entry fee is ONLY $50 right now, with the HPD sponsorship. So that is $250 you "save" versus a normal weekend.

Gas to and from the venue?? From "LA to Toole" is 684miles each way, 1368 round trip. 10miles per gallon (i doubt any but the guys with toter homes get worse then 10mpg) is 138 gallons. Lets say average cost is $3.00 a gallon (gas is much cheaper in NV/UT then CA) $414.00 dollar in fuel. Which is probably MUCH more then your normal weekend. I use a tank which is roughly $80.

But you have that $250 savings above that you can throw into that for fuel.

Gas/tires/brakes, you will use more of but it wouldn't be a budget breaker.


I missed 1 weekend, and might miss two so that i can afford nationals. For me missing 2 regional weekends makes sure i have a nice cushion for nats. Since i spend about $700 a weekend.

With test day, tires, brakes, etc i am budgeting about $900. (i registered early so i race for free.)

No doubt 2000 miles is far, but instead of racing for last place, why don't you race for the win??? Who races for last place?!

When the nationals were at Mid-Ohio in '06-'08, a handful of west coast guys made the 2600mile trek to the east. Hopefully, some of the east (se) coast guys can do the same this year. This time, it'll be televised!

Scott, It's probably more than 2000 miles for you, it's 2200 miles for me in Eastern PA.

Last year I thought I was going to be dead last, there were some really fast guys on track but I ended up finishing 2nd. Thank God for attrition. Either way I had a great time and the West Coast racers are a great group of people.

How many of the H1 guys will adjust and run H2 ? Seems like the class to be in this year. Might hit 20 cars or more from the looks of it. If Graham goes H2, there might be 5 previous HC champs in the field!
